I was wondering, do the front side marker light on North American RX-8s function as side turn signal repeaters on Japanese or European models?

And do these same lights which are white on Jap/Euro models retroreflect as the amber ones in North America?

That's correct.

US: corner markers are amber reflectors and, when the lights are on, lit continuously.

Japan, Europe, etc: corner markers are clear (with amber bulb) and only light as a turn signal.

 

That goes for Australia too....

 

There is a DIY thread on how to make them turn signals. I sure wish that they were turn signals for NA models too.
