DIY: Radar Detector Mount Bracket

DIY: Radar Detector Mount Bracket
I have a Passport 8500 Radar Detector and didn't like the suction cup mounting option that came with the detector and didn't want to place it on the dash either. I wanted something that was NOT permanent, somewhat hid the detector and power cord as well as being fast and easy to remove. After looking around the interior for a good way to mount the detector I decided to use a simple bracket that attaches under the plastic clip that holds the visor (closest to the rear view mirror). This plastic clip easily pops out if you insert 2 flat head screw drivers on each side to move the plastic clips that hold it in place out of the way. I had a friend of mine who has access to a metal shop to make the bracket. The bracket needs to be thin (mine is a little thicker than the metal suction cup mounting bracket that came with the detector) but still strong. I have a direct wire cord on order that I will run behind the A-piller molding to hide the cord. This detector is 3 years old and the plastic portion of the housing that holds the upper and lower pieces together have broke and that's why I have electrical tape holding them together. I've had it in place for about two weeks now and think it works great. I assume something like this could be use for other radar detectors too. Check out the pictures.
