DIY: Getting RX-8 on Rhino Ramps
so after being frustrated time and time again about not being able to get my car on Rhino Ramps, I came to a conclusion. Most of you probably know this by now but I figured I'd send the information along. I used a set of my friends' Yukon All-Weather floor matts (the rubber ones) and put them under the Rhino Ramps. Car went right up on it. The ramps used to fly out when trying to put the car on either way front or back. Here is a picture!

That is actually pretty smart. I fought with those things for a minute back in the days when it was actually possible for me to use them.
Now my car is too low for ramps.
What I had done was to attach a length of rope to the hanging hole on the front lip of the ramp and then laid it out so that the vehicle was driving over the line prior to hitting the ramp. This kept it in place until the tire was actually on the plastic. Kinda worked.
Your idea is much better.

Hmmm, mine has been on the ramps quite a few times since I bought it and I've never had a problem with it. They stay in place just like they should.
I guess it's all in how you do it. Seeing that I've had these ramps for years and have probably used them close to a hundred times with various cars, RWD and FWD, I suppose I'm just used to them.
You guys arn't leaving any space between the tire and ramp prior to driving up are you? You're supposed to take the very end of the ramp and place it at the tire, then kind of kick it in to wedge it between the tire and ground. They'll never move.
I'm just imagining you guys actually driving up to them a short distance...no wonder they're moving!!

I think it may have to do with the "type" of Rhino ramp - I think the cheaper ones are Rhino Ramp "Jr's" or something to that effect.... shoulda done some research before I bought the dumb things...
Anyway, I had the same damned problem with my cheapo set. Thanks for posting the tip, ndtechie!

genious, i was about to go get some 4x4s and use them to brace the ramps against the garage wall (lower part is cinder blocks)
now just to get some plywood to put at the beginning of the ramps... my front lip hits now... couldn't imagine being lower than MS springs/oe lip

Another easy fix is to:
1) coat the ramps with a rubberized truck bedliner coating, so you get tons more grip, and
2) coat the concrete floor with an epoxy sealant.

So it seems as though for those of us still at stock height, the rhinos actually work well without having to use 2x4's to prevent scraping the front lip or rear bumpers?
If so, I'll be buyinhg some this week--I need to change my oil!

I've been using these for years and I actually put a sleaves in the concrete (two per ramp) that I thread long bolts into and then when I need to use the ramps I screw the bolts in and slide the ramps up against them. Those rhino ramps lose the grip surface over time and the rubber gromet on the bottom wears off so they slide easy. But they are the only ones I could ever get my lowered car son.
