Exclamation BULLETIN: NHSTA Investigating 2004 RX-8 Clutch Pedal Bracket Issue

" The agency is also looking at a possible defect on an estimated 40,000 2004-8 Mazda RX-8s with manual transmissions. There have been 40 complaints that the bracket holding the clutch pedal failed, and 15 people said the failure happened when they were driving, and that meant they could not change gears. Two owners said the errant clutch pedal became trapped under the brake pedal."

Now it's been picked up by AutoBlog with emphasis on the issue for the 8s.

Mazda should have fixed this a long time ago. Oh well.

I wasn't the first one to have an issue, but Im pretty sure I was the first one to report it to NHTSA. and I was the first one who got the reply from NHTSA.

Im pretty sure there are WAY MORE THAN 40 people with clutch bracket issue. We need more people report their issue to NHTSA !

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/clutch-pedal-snap-off-8-year-warranty-recall-%7E%7E%7E-132912/

Please see my thread ! File the issue formally first on the NHTSA site, then shoot me a pm and I will tell you the agent's email who is responsible for this case.

Mine hasn't broken yet but I think it will eventually I can actually feel the pedal click and groan sometimes when I push it in like it isnt well lubricated or something... very scary I hope it doesn't happen while I'm moving.

Just go look with a flash light, takes less than a minute.

The torsion spring in mine broke out of the bushing that holds it and is now carving through the sheet metal. Looks scary

thats what mine felt like. then i got my race roots clutch bracket and it went away. it became perfectly smooth.

(yes i know im shamelessly promoting them, but its true. i'd only support a great product.)

Report them, saying you see signs of wear and its going to break anytime.

I wonder how many pedals BHR sent out? I got mine from Charles back when I had about 80,000 miles just in case mine was going to snap.

In order to force Mazda to design a better bracket, We need to proof that every Rx-8 eventually will have this problem. Also this a potential safety issue, NHTSA might force Mazda to put this into a Life Time Warranty. Just like what they did to 91 S5 Seat belts, All S5 91+ RX-7's Automatic Seatbelt will fail one day, so they forced Mazda to warranty every single one of them for the life of the car (cuz its a safety issue)

Mine broke on my way home from work today and stranded me in the middle of a busy intersection one block from the freeway onramp. I had to push the car to the side of the road. You can bet I'm going to take pics and file a complaint as well.
