My Black/Grey Cloth to Red/Black Leather Interior swap

So I finished this up 95% this weekend. The only thing left is to change the steering wheel and didn't have the puller handy, so didn't knock that out right away.

Here's some pictures of the interior before I started:

Some Finished Pics:

Here's a link to all my pictures for the job, but will be adding additional info in regards to some of the minor difficulties we ran into with some of the door panels.

RX8 Interior Swap

Still Uploading all pics....working on finished and then a little bit of walk thru info to come after that.

Was asked this question via PM, but wanted to make it a public answer for everyone:

Hey. I read your past thread about installing the leather interior from your cloth one. I am interested in doing this but in the Black. Same thing I suppose. What I wanted to know is...if our cars are pre-wired for the powered seats?

I am able to get my hands on a center console with heat switches, but I wanted to know how hard it was to get everything working.
My 04 had cloth interior with manual seats. When I put the new seats in, all the hookups were in place and power seat worked great. The seat heater switches are already wired and just waiting for a switch to turn them on.

This is an easy peasy process.

Swap looks great man. Did you break the plastic piece on the driver's side of the center console during your swap? DOH! Looks like it may be well hidden by the seat tho.

Didn't break that piece. Broke a plastic piece on the old passenger side rear door panel, but that was it.

I see what you're talking about though. That's a natural line/crease in the plastic piece on the console, only visible with the seat out, Not a break

Even from outside the car walking up to it, it's so much more stylish now. I'm really digging it. Red/black has always been my favorite RX8 color scheme.

Sorry if dumb question but did you buy new complete front seats or did you re wrap the old ones with leather covers?

I bought all the seats/door panels off ebay. found the right deals. total cost of front/rear seats, door panels, and steering wheel were about $1k. Finding the complete set of door panels can be the tough part. I wouldn't have done the conversion without those and those were the first items I bought.

Did you get any error light after swapping the front seats? Did you have to do any PCM resets?

my concern was that when i compared the wire harness that comes from the ground the number of wires was different from the 05 rx8 i have compared to t he wire harness from the ground i took from a 05 rx8 that had leather.

i have cloth and am looking to switch to leather (bought seats, switches, etc) but am thinking i may have an issue since the wire harness are the same shape BUT have differnet number of wires.

Are the extra wires just the wires that have to be hooked up the the center console switch?

Sorry to dig up such an old thread...using search to its fullest potential.

Looking to buy an 8 soon, there is one available locally 20k miles but cloth, and I would definitely want the leather. I noticed from pictures 2, to 3 in the OP, some seat heater switches appeared in the center console. Did you have to take these out of another RX interior as well, or were they addons somehow?

Any info on that would be great
