My awesome 2 week old Whitewater Pearl 8

is DEAD

Some ******* kid lost control of his Tiburon and sideswiped me on the Expressway, causing me to spin and hit the center concrete divider.

It has been deemed totaled. Now I await how much insurance is going to give me for it. It is 2 weeks old but is a 2006 that was purchased as new. Nicely loaded with nav and everything too.

i've never been in an accident before, so i'm not sure what to expect as far as an insurance check goes. i am pretty sure that it will be 100% his fault, but still. who knows what insurance will deem my car's value to be, as it is an '06...but with only 400 miles!

anyone go through this before? i'm not sure if i should wait on looking for another car until i actually get that insurance replacement.

that just sucks. you might as well start looking around for a new one. it may take a while to get exactly what you want to get and you'll want to be ready. the insurance companies may take a while to get things sorted out but stay on them. i'm hoping the guy got cited and you have a police report showing he is at fault.

yeah i'm thinking the same thing. also, i was taken away in an ambulance for my back problems, and never got to talk to any police officers, so I have no idea what is in the accident report. once it gets processed and i get to see it, if there is anything inaccurate about it, i will have to amend to it.

You need to go to the police station and get your two cents in. You do not want it to all be just the other guys story.

usually your insurance will take care of everything and they may even have the report that the other driver gave them.So you might want to check with them.

Like mention be the other guys make your you make a report, there's a time limit to that. Not your of what it is, but there is.

Good luck......

Don't wait on this or you'll get screwed. Call whomever handled the accident(State Troopers) or whoever and file your side of the accident. Then get on the phone with the insurance company and talk with them.
Sorry about the car, good that you are okay, now quit typing and call.

Oh no! Well, I hope you had full insurance on it! You'd probably get the exact same car as a replacement.

I guess better it happen now w/only 400 miles than a few thousand miles. Be prepared to fight your insurance company about the payout. Ask if they offer "agreed value" as opposed to "market value". It is worth a little extra premium for something like this, if you are not carrying gap coverage.

i have to look into this. i'm not sure if gap coverage is something built into my policy or if that is something i would have had to pay extra. i am sure they are going to low ball me with what they deem the car's value is.

right now i'm on the fence about getting a new (third) RX8. being that i have a baby on the way, i am wondering if this was a sign that I should move on to something else. i had a truck in the running when i decided on this second RX8, and thinking perhaps I might want to do that.

but I love the 8 so.

normally i'd right away point out the fact that the 8 can fit kids quite nicely. but when they're infants and are rear facing for an entire year, it's not quite so easy. it all depends on how often they'll be in there too.

my kids are both now forward facing (although one was rear facing for a while) but they've only been in the 8 a few times. each time they were in their recaro seats and loved it and to be honest those seats fit better in there than my wife's honda. but if they were going to be in there a lot and even one of them was an infant i would think twice. whoever is in front of that rear facing seat has to move up pretty close to the dashboard and it's not that easy to get them in and out rear facing.

best of luck to you with whatever you decide.
