My new 8

I'm so exited.

I dont' know if you care, but I had in mind a basic 8 with the sport package. Looked around, and none in NM. There are 2 dealers here in Albuquerque. One I like, one I don't. The one I like kept promising over and over to find me a car the way I wanted it. I also poked around and what the different dealers had but that never happened....

After about 1.5 months we (wife and I) started talking about where things were going. She said that I should get the car I want and screw all this crap.

w00t!!! I love the Copper Red.

So found the car about 70 miles from me - in Santa Fe. Contacted them and we came to a fair deal - actually quite easily. (3% over dealer invoice seems fair to me, even with holdbacks.) Had the deal done, told the salesman on the phone to get it ready I'll be there in 1.5 hours.

Get onsite, looked at the car and drooled, even with the thing being pretty dirty as it waited in the queue for detailing.. Noticed a set of spark plugs in the glove box. Odd - but I tell the salesman that it is probably related to the recall. No biggie.

I do the finance guy thing and close the deal, only to find out that the recall hadn't been done yet and they "aren't supposed to let it go without it". While they would let me take it, they say that they cannot let another dealer do the recall – IE: I have to make another trip to them to get the car. (70 miles)

I tried and tried, but due to logistics left the car in Santa Fe and will go get it Tuesday evening.

I hate this.

Good thing you didn't sign all the paperwork. I assume you're talkin about buying an '06; if so, tell them you want all the factory cash (whether it's to dealer, or not). There's at least $1500 of it.

I can assure you I bougt at 3% over dealer invoice and I got the rebates. So, by my calcs they got $580 holdback and around $900 over invoice. I'm sure if I had fought it I coulda cut that 900 in half...but I'm ready for my car now! LOL

Anyway, what pissed me off is that he let me drive that 70 miles to get the car and then we found out that he needed the recall - and I couldn't do the recall at a dealer much closer to me.

When we bought 05 in last july all the gas tank recalls just came out and the same thing at the dealership happen, we live 60 miles from this dealer... They gave my wife a new one that had been fixed to drive till hers got fixed and then made her 1st payment for her?

I'd rather have the recall done and then drive it away then deal with it later. Make sure all the other TSB's have been addressed as well. Also start it when the engine is cold, cut it off right away and see if it floods on the dealers lot so that if it does they can give you the updates

I had to FLY over 400 miles to go pickup my car and drive it back. 70 isn't so bad and congrats copper red is an awesome color.

black is the dust magnet support here .

i swear, my 8 (and probably ANY other black car), i would wash it, and like a day or two later, it would already have a nice coat of dust on it

Wow, what a GREAT car. I love it. AC blows nice and cold, although i did have to put it on bi-level as the feet started getting a bit warm.

Dunno gas milage - have burned just over 1/4 tank so far. Over 14 average and it will be an improvement for me and I'll be happy anyway.

Can't wait to start opening it up and seeing what it can do. Trying now to be nice to it for at least a few hundred miles. Very hard to do and I have hit 6k once already.

My blue must be like Pig Pen, then. She is always covered in dust and pollen!!! I didn't have time to wash Bella before I went on vacation so she was kinda dusty. When I was gone it "misted" on two different occasions so the dust and pollen that was already on there got wet, as well as new dust and pollen landing on her. She looks like she has white/pale tan measles!!! I'm going to try and wash her tomorrow morning.

Maybe it’s just west coast vs. east coast dealers but I just got a CR Shinka with Appearance, Spoiler, Accent and cargo net for 1,700 below invoice, 29,950 before tax and tags (1,500 mazda cash) including all dealer fees. Either way enjoy your ride, I love mine.

You will love your car. i've had my CR for about a month now and still have a big grin when I drive it. I am amazed how the character of the car changes as more miles get put on. I went through a break-in period and those first 600 miles killed me. The car comes alive around 1000 and everything begins to mesh smoothly. Don't count on the gas milage getting any better though. I have not changed the oil yet and I am averaging 16MPG irregardless of driving style.

And don't forget to show your support and vote for your favorite CR picture in the lounge/ calender thread.

Because of color styling packages, etc. an 8 is almost unique to each owner. If your milage is low, be sure to have the engine checked out. Baby it for the first week or so, good for thengine and if something get funny it is less devistating, and at the same time you are developing the handling skills and getting the feel of the car - you will need this when you discover the speed - meanwhile, you are so lucky to live in a place where you can escape traffic, and see the road well ahead. And if you are looking for dust collections just trying driving one down a dirt road...By the way, Ice polish really really collects dust and every cloth mark is revealed!

Keep us posted on your discoveries it is fun to relive them with someone new!

That could be as I've seen comments like that - but when ever I dig in deeper it is East coast.

I watched with much interest/jealously your drive last weekend. I'll go post more over there later....

Today was a mixed 8 day. Last minute trip need to Los Alamos (yes the place the A-Bomb was made). Anyway, that is about 1.45 hours away on pretty boring roads. I just tried to keep varying my RPM with gears and whatnot.

Got up there and the meeting was short so I had a bit of time on my hands. For those of you who don't know NM, there is a fun drive from Los Alamos to Albuquerque - through Jemez Springs. Nice mountain roads up there.

Anyway, pulled out of Los Alamos and it was pouring. Damn, this is the best part of this road. I don't know the car well enough to enjoy. I get a few good parts where the rain lets up, the road is not too wet and I get to enjoy twisties!!

The good news was that it was Friday afternoon and there was not much traffic. The few cars that got in may way were easily passed without exceeding my self imposed limit of 6k. The rest of the drive I kept it at/below 4k.

Get back to 'burque and it is pouring again - but it's flatter here so I have to drive through many puddles/rivers to get it home. Two of which everyone was going through but I was nervous. I'm used to driving a 4x4 Dakota and am not used to thinking about things like this.

All in all, great car and good times....

Congrats. All of your excitement about your new 8 got me thinking about when I first bought mine. Now I can't wait to get out for a drive tomorrow. Well done and thanks.
