Speedsource Swaybar for street car?

Hi All,
a local workshop has one of the Speedsource splined bar " speedway type" swaybars,
that was purchased and never used on a customers car.
I was wondering if anyone thinks it would be suitable for a streetcar/occl track day ,
KWvariant shocks and good tyres?
I think I recall Teamrx8 sold theirs a fair while ago, I assume it was no good for his Autox work

I was always intent of buying the Progress ,front bar,
as per Steve Dallas recommendation,
but never got around to it,
when this one popped up.....

It’s fine, but uses race type heim joint end links. I prefer heavy duty version of the OE endlinks, such as Powerlink instead. They work just as well without the noise and wear issues a real racing type endlink has. The OE style endlinks do require the arms to be machined a bit different than just drilled holes to work on the thicker speedway type arms. I also prefer to use a different type of center bar that offers more thickness variations for finer tuning, but the splined ends are also slightly different than the standard 48 spline ends on the Speedsource bar. So I had bought that one used and then for my nitpicky parameters decided to sell it and custom build my own.

I actually some custom ones for sale, but the one set with three 1/8”, 3/16”, and 1/4” bar thicknesses is spoken for, but still pending sale. The other one only has one bar, I think 3/16” thickness, but easy enough to buy other bar thicknesses. These particular bars only fit up to 9” wide wheels with RX8 offsets. Wider wheels might have an inteference issue.

The Speedsource bar is no longer sold by Motorsports. I think it could be ordered with different bar thicknesses, but came with 1/4” thickness. So it’s pretty stiff, but not uncommon for the RX8. They now sell a version from ProParts that is similar to a bar setup that TriPoint Engineering used to sell.

Could you post a picture of the SpeedSource bar? Just curious.

Those mounting brackets will bend with track use.

I ran the equivalent thickness bar (1.25” OD x 0.25” wall) without issue for years :dunno:

you need to cut part of the tabs off the top ends of the bushing brackets to clear the ABS cable mount brackets above them

might have been stronger/different supplier maybe, can recall another manufacturer having some issues until reinforcing them. Mine weren’t reinforced though.

Truthfully they were bent when I got the car so I don't know their history. Could have been bent in a crash.

Regardless, there are billet options available for a 1.25 OD bar since it is common with the domestic crowd.
