Rear Aluminum Shock Hats Pics Wanted
Guys, I'd be grateful if somebody could post or PM me a few pictures of the late Series II aluminum shock hats that go on top of the rear shocks and springs. I've searched all over and can't find any posted.
Thank you! :worship: :icon_tup: |
NC's had aluminum top mounts, but they're shorter and lack the provision for the extra brace on top, but they could be lengthened to suit an RX8. My 2010 had steel top mounts, so if they did make a change, it'll be pretty rare.

Thanks for the information. That's what I noticed too. I think i'm getting some bad info from a vendor that's kind of ruining my suspension upgrade and costing me track time. :wallbash:

Sorry can not do real pics ATM, but these are MMC EPC screenshots of them.
F189 are for all Series 2 RX-8 F151 are for all Series 1 RX-8 NE51 is all NC (MX-5) https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...e47d7bc8b0.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...925b8d738a.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...140153f5df.jpg |
Thanks Ash. And here's the problem, the aluminum hats ain't going to work.

So, surprise, I don't know WTF I'm doing.
This is apparently OK. If I don't like it I can use low-rate helper springs to take up the slack. Problem solved, car will be on-track Friday. :o: |
I read somewhere on here that TeamRX8 used those NC top hats, but welded an aluminum tube in there to make them match the RX8 length, otherwise you'll get less bump travel in the rear (but more rebound).

My 2011 came with steel top hats.
So, how did your track day go? |
Engine mounts
Good day,
Will the series 1 engine mounts work on the series 2? |

Pulling this one out of the grave. Anyone get exact part number to order the aluminum shock hats from Mazda? Local dealerships are at a lost.
|
The NC ones? Drop me a pm if yes...

2012 NC MX5
One is RH and other LH, MSRP price listed, both are in stock at USA PDCs so ordering them shouldn’t be an issue 28-340A Part No. NE51-28-340C SHEET,SPRING-UPPER $115.17 28-340A Part No. NE51-28-34XC SHEET,SPRING-UPPER $114.06 https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...cd3405dbcf.gif |
No issue with them behind 2 inches shorter than the steel top hats?
|
you can’t run a standard RX8 rear shock with them, in case that’s not obvious.
|
Okay I got the information I needed from goodwin. Just going to machine a new spring perch spacer instead of using the delrin they send with and use oem steel hats. Now we just twiddle our thumbs till Ohlins ships them out.
|
Sakebomb makes them if your time is valuable, along with the bolt and spacers you will need to keep the springs from rubbing on the shock body. Note you have to level and flatten the base of the steel hats as they are neither (being a stamped piece).
