Racing Beat Springs with R3 Bilstein Shocks?
 

I am wondering if anyone paired the racing beat springs with the R3 Bilstein Shocks? I have already did a search on it, but not alot of comments or reviews. Would someone kindly provide some comments or reviews on this combo? i.e. Is there any performance difference in comparison with the OEM springs? Any pictures of R3 with RB springs? In addition, I called Racing Beat and their tech support said that they have not test fitted the springs onto a R3 before.

It is doable but the stock Bilstein struts don't have a shorter shaft like say a Koni yellow would. What this means is that it is when you use a shorter spring it "might" bottom out the strut. This of course depends on how low you go and the RB springs should not be an issue. Worse case the ride might be a little more harsh than if you replaced the struts with a strut designed to be on a lowered car.

I recently (~2 weeks ago) had RB springs installed to the R3 shocks ... bought it off another 8 club member who had it on his R3 for about 4,000 kms and had good things to say about it.

The ride quality doesn't feel any different on smooth roads - I only feel the extra harshness when I encounter the ridiculous pot holes in downtown Toronto. The car feels more confident when taking on/off highway ramps but I haven't taken it to the track yet with this setup so can't comment on my lap times until end of May! The drop was also very minimal (negligible I would think?)... RB claims a half inch i think? Visually, we parked my (then) stock R3 against an R3 with these springs on and you can't see a difference.

Interesting. It seems like we are looking at coilovers if we want anything noticeable on our S2z. Piggy bank time...

My R3 has Cusco Zero 2 coil-overs with the ECON installed. You can get pretty-much as much drop as you want.

As for ride quality if you set the ECON to the softest settings, it seems to me somewhere between an S1 and an R3. At mid settings it's a bit firmer ride than an R3 on Eibachs and not massively comfortable for long distances, and at hardest settings it's way, way harder.

With the Cusco's the wheels seem to want to stay in even better contact with the road than either the stock R3, or stock with Eibach lowering springs (which IMHO and experience is an improvement on stock) so roadholding ( and handling) is improved ... and thus driver confidence is improved too. Or at least this drivers is!

Interesting, I have been looking towards the HKS HyperMax setup. How long have you had the Cusco's installed?

I've had them in for several months now, and another guy over here in the UK has had them for a couple of years and swears by them, for both daily drive and track use.

I am no expert on coliovers, and doubt whether I could really tell too much difference between one brand and another, assuming they're both reasonably well made, but Cusco seems a well-regarded brand and:

- they offer a synthetic rubber mount as an option, not just a pillow ball type (and for me, the rubber is more than hard enough, and won't start making those nasty grindy noises after a few thousand miles)
- the ECON allows you to change the damping at the push of a button from the comfort of your seat :naughty:, and that's worth its' weight in gold to me!
