R3 suspenssion mod

I was At a track day in Mont-Tremblant and I saw a R3 like mine that was lowered, I ask the owner witch setup he had and he explained me that he only modified the stock strut (where the spring sits). he was in a hurry so I didnt catch all of it, but something about machining a new groove for the spring support and you can set the height as u like.

any one heard of that aswell???

Basically if you look at the top of your spring you will see that where it seats with the strut has a notch to prevent the spring from spinning freely. Chances are that he modified that notch so that he could actually spin the spring and "lower" the car a bit. Either way, modding the stock shocks to have your car ride lower decreases its life span, and he probably doesn't DD that car with the setup like that because the wear on the springs wouldn't be all too great.

Stock R3 shocks are Bilsteins. They have a groove machined into the shock body, then a circlip is put in the groove. Then the bottom spring perch sits on top of it.

Cutting a groove lower on the shock body will reduce spring preload and give you a lower ride height. I might be able to post some pictures tomorrow if you want them.

There are a bunch of things wrong with doing it this way though and I certainly wouldn't suggest it. Especially to the point that it is visibly lower without even needing to measure like this guys car sounds like.
