Any R3 owners hear running B6 Bilsteins?

1) Anyone running the B6 damper on the R3 or S2? Does the ride quality differ?

2) Do you have S1 lowering springs on this setup? What kind?

Why I am asking...

I know R3's come with Bilsteins stock. But, there is a B6 Bilstein damper available aftermarket with S1 style rear spring perch which should allow S1 springs to lower our S2 cars the correct way.

Now from what I can tell, the Bilstein R3 is also a B6 style HD damper. I cannot confirm this even with Bilstein who said I would need to contact Mazda.

Would it be ghetto if I bought 2 rears B6's and a full set of lowering springs and installed them? I don't want to impact the ride. This way, it would sit like they were supposed to in the S1.

I don't really want to deal with Koni, tokico DSP etc which are all a PITA to adjust - Koni rears have to come off, Tokico needs hole in trunk and extension adjusters.

I am not really after coilover style height adjustability and 30 ways to adjust dampening. I would like to reduce wheel gap once and for all and call it a day.

Thanks!

The new B6 damper upgrade from Bilstein has been designed specifically for the Range Rover Sport. It provide more damping power from your shock absorber – even under loads.

Umm, B6 is made for several vehicles, sir!

I don't think so. He's just trying to use an outside service for his sig and it's not working well.
While his profile location says St Petersburg, FL, I trace his IP to Jacksonville.
His FB, Twitter and LI pages don't exist.
His profile picture is used elsewhere on the net under different names. He deserves watching.

The R3 Bilsteins are a monotube damper like the B6. The tuning is different from the Bilstein OE-replacement shocks (B6) available for the RX-8. It was developed for the R3 model, and is the main thing that makes an R3 handle better than a standard RX-8.

If you want to use S1 lowering springs, I think the way to go would be to get a matched set of S1 aftermarket shocks, maybe Konis or Tokico D-specs. I suppose you could go with Bilsteins too, but I've seen discussion about the fact that the spring seat position doesn't really match the S1 spring seats. You should look into that if you want to get the Bilsteins.

Note that the B6 can be revalved, and if you wanted to send your R3 shocks in to Bilstein along with the B6 shocks, they could measure the behavior of the R3 shocks and try to duplicate it with the B6 shocks. If you are planning on lowering, you should consider the B8 instead of the B6 because they have a shorter body which will help avoid hitting the bump stops.

John - I appreciate your reply and you are thinking along the same lines as me.

I decided to go with the B8's. But, they cannot be ordered here in the US. I talked to several retailers who do not list a part # for these. I gave them the European part # and they called Bilstein and said that they were unable to get them from them. So, I called Bilstein directly and they said its a custom part and to order it, I would have to use a vendor and so I was stuck in an endless loop of ping-pong with the vendors and Bilstein.

I finally said, screw it and I ordered them from the UK last week. Last I heard, they were shipped from Germany to UK and are shipping this week to me.

If by "experience" you mean quoting the first sentence of the first link that comes up when you google "B6 Bilsteins", then...okay...

Poorly scripted bot would be a better answer.
This is an Rx-8 forum, not a Range Rover.
My guess, you're just trying to promote your little signature... "social engineering."
