TPMS on Series II
Supposedly my '09 RX8 has a TPMS, but I have no clue where to find it. Can anyone tell me what to look for, or how to check to make sure I have it?
Thanks |
its inside the wheels.
your tire pressure light should come on when you turn the key on. if the tire pressure drops to low the light will come on. |

Oh. So it won't tell you which wheel it is or anything like that? Will it light up if your pressure is too high? And do you know how accurate it is? Like within 1 or 2 psi? Or does it allow for more variation from recommended inflation?
The light wont tell you which tire. Check 'em with a pressure gauge. Shouldnt come on if to high a pressure. Every manufacturer sets the limits of PSI drop when the light comes on. Should be somewhere between 5-10 PSI drop. Know this. If you have your cold tire inflation set to the specs, come winter the light may come on on cold mornings. I set mine a few PSI higher in the winter for this reason. |
good info

The ECU does get a separate signal from each sensor. If you plug a good enough scanner into the OBD II port, you can read the individual tire pressures. You'd need to do a little detective work - changing the pressure one at a time - to figure out which one is on which wheel.

Can anyone describe what the dash light looks light? I'm not sure if I see it.

It doesn't tell you which wheel.
You just take your pressure gauge and check them old school style. |
I think if the light comes on, its usually 5-10 psi below recommended, you can tell just by looking at the tires.
one of my tire was 3 psi down, the light didnt light up. |

Though it's rather worthless if it only comes on at extremes. |

It comes on if the tire is below 28 psi. It's very worthwhile as it tells you when your tire is under inflated. It is very common with large drops in temperature, like winter. That way you know to check and inflate your tires so you don't have a problem. Also useful if you pick up a nail that causes a slow or rapid leak so you don't find out when it's too late.
As far as blowing a tire on the highway...well You'll know right away anyway. +1 in that it would be nice to have a display that tells you tire pressure for each tire +- 0.5 PSI. |
they also report over pressure... i found out accidentally by forgetting i had intentionall put them pretty high and then ending up cruising at ~200kph for 15-20 stretch... tires heated, pressure went up, and my light came on :)

The sensors are in the wheels. If you have metal valve stems you have TPMS. Rubber, no TPMS.
Shouldnt come on if to high a pressure. Every new car in the US comes with TPMS since 2007. Its mandatory in Europe in 2012. They report both under and over pressure. Read your manual. Dont tell me you dont have one. go get it at mazdausa.com |

^ It's a hassle to read a .pdf file? Stay in college, 'cause in the real working world you'll be reading a ton of .pdf's!

TYPICAL!!!! its too much of a hassle to READ a pdf manual but not too much of a hassle to spend your time asking these basic questions on a forum. You want someone to TELL you instead of reading it yourself. you couldn't even be bothered to find out which light it was yourself.
PAGE 8 of the quick start guide https://www.mymazda.com/MusaWeb/pdf/...s/2009_RX8.pdf its too much of a hassle to read to page 8? its too much of a hassle to open the manual pdf and type "tpms" into the search box? https://www.mymazda.com/MusaWeb/pdf/...09_RX-8_OM.pdf |

I read through it. Missed it. Thought it wasn't there. Thirdly, my .pdf viewer doesn't search. I know it's outdated, but legit Acrobat costs money. Fourthly, the manual doesn't specify how precise the TMPS is. Fifthly, thanks for being an incredible ass after everyone else kindly helped out. You represent this forum well. Please never post in my threads again. It'll save you the trouble and blood pressure. |
