Thermofan stays on after switching off engine.

I have serched 3 forums but to no avail.

As you know my car is brand new. 1500Km on the clock.
The car has only done it once since the service yesterday but I got the car home, about a 30km drive, switched off the enginegot out and shut the door and the Thermo fan came on. I started the car then switched off again after 1 minute and it was fine. Is this normal? I couldnt see any visual signs of a short in the circuit.

Also when I was driving this morning the handbrake light flashed on for a milli second. Would these two somehow be related. Maybe a short in the fuse box?

Please help.

The fans often do that... on most cars.
The brake light should be unrelated and i wouldn't worry unless it happens again.

This is the first car that I have had that the thermofan comes on with no ignition power at all. I have hard wired fans for performance cars etc but I have not heard of a standard car doing this.
If it is normal so be it as im in 38 degree temps constantly, however if it is a short and I go into the shops to come out and find my battery flat, I will not be a happy chappy.

Completely normal. Next time you should let it do it's job.

Mine will do this after a spirited drive on a warm or hot day.

Cool. Thanks for that. I figured as much but just wanted to make sure.

isnt it nice for you Aussies have summer down there when we all freezing our balls off up here.
and yes, its completely normal.

OK, Yes, BobsRX8GT, your fans coming on are/is completely Normal.

38c is close to 100F..and yes we are in summer, Adelaide is expecting 39c on New Years eve.

Anyway....it is NORMAL, Don't turn your ignition ON to stop the fans from working as doing this will turn off and they wont restart again until a drive cycle is done, SO just let the fans do their job and walk away from your car, it is turned on by your high Coolant Temps...Fans will turn off in about 5 minutes.

NOTE: The Series 2's also has a PCM temp protector, via an internal sensor that monitors Engine Compartment Temps, so IF the PCM (ECU) internal sensor detects compartment at or above 106c (IIRC) your Fans will also turn on at Medium (middle) Speed...this keeps the air moving and prevents the PCM from getting too hot.

BTW Bob, seeing you are in Darwin (Northern Territory) I would 100% do the rear Oil Cooler Slash Guard modification...
