Series II | Doing first oil change soon; should I get oil plug gaskets?
Not sure what the differences are but I've read the few how-to's on this site and will get a hex set for my ratchet since it's a recessed hex plug on the series 2. Do those kinds of plugs use washers? If so, is there a certain type/brand I need to go with or are they all standard/generic?
According to Amazon those fit the series 2. |
Ah, guess I'll just use some super glue, or some caulk. No one seems to know so it's whatever I feel like securing the thing with right?
Edit: Never mind, the ones on Amazon that I linked had the OEM part number in them from Mazda. So they are OEM-alike. Good enough. |
As long as you don't lose it when you drain the oil, you're good.
I changed mine when it started to look tatty, about five years ago. No need to fixate on it...... |
What stealth said, only other reason to change it is if its leaking.

I went to drain the oil on my new-to-me rx8 and sure enough the drain plug hex opening is rounded off. I could use a tip or 2 on how to get that bugger out of there.

try a hex bolt extractor

you could also JB Weld a small Allen key end into the oil plug then use an appropriately sized socket to remove it for oil changed

Thanks guys. I ordered a hex/screw extractor set.
edit: It worked like a charm. Hopefully I can get the extractor out of the plug now. |
