Yes I would as ALL RX-8's used the exact same Passenger inflator Series 1 and 2.
The Series 2 Drivers inflator is a Daicel brand airbag as used on 2,3, Miata with change of Steering Wheel in S2.

I have been getting recall notice letters and phone text at every 2 weeks from Mazda Australia for the past 3 months, I have told them my car is not in use (unregistered as I am using my MX-5), I am certainly not registering and insuring it just to drive to a Dealer and get Passenger AB done, I will do it soon.

My Canadian transplant 2009 R3 is not found in the airbagrecall.com site, nor in the mazdarecallinfo.com site. Odd.
The car really does exist, and this really is the vin.
I wonder what is the frigging deal here?

JM1FE174090401376

This is your VIN Number /\

I have no Idea what the 1GAZGY number you have also enter, ONLY use JM1FE174090401376

Your Sparkling Black FED/CAN Manual Trans R3 RX-8 does exist and was made on May 26th, 2008.

And yes I just tried on the mazdarecall site and it says VIN does not exist..
I checked your VIN on Mazda NAO EPC (supplied by Mazda Japan) and the Vin Number Does exist, that is how I found out the colour and date of manufacture of your R3.

I suggest you call Mazda Canada and get it sorted, obviously somehow your VIN is not in recall database.

My S2 is not part of the recall because it has had too much Northern Exposure (not enough humidity to degrade the module). It is only a matter of time until it is in the recall. It will be replaced by another same design only again to take a matter of time to explode.

Agreed with ASH8.

Whoever says that BC doesn't have a lot of moisture needs to be drowned in the rainwater.

My 08 Accord Coupe was also recalled for the Takata airbag, and I got it done before I sold it, so there is no reason Mazda Canada is not doing it.

The new ones have a compound that sucks up water, so it should at least hold up for a while.

I'm in the zone that Mazda claims is not part of the first wave of US recalls for the TAB

Thanks
I don't know where the 1GAZGY number came from - I did enter the actual VIN.
I will call Mazda CAN.

So I decided to call Mazda Canada the other day to get some answers.

The lady who picked up the phone just told me that Canada may use different parts. I informed her that since all the RX-8s are made in the same factory, they should all use the same airbags. I also said this car is recalled for the passenger side airbag in the US and Australia. They also said there is a priority list for the airbag recall, which makes sense. BC has high humidity, but our temperature doesn't swing much between seasons, so I guess that's why we are lower on the priority list.

I will bug them again later if they don't do anything. At the mean time, can anyone check the part number for the passenger airbag in the US and other regions?

Sorry for late response...in regard to Canada and the 'lady' who you talked to...
that is just BS.

The Inflator units are not for sale as an individual part only to the public, they have been made specially available for the recall ONLY.

Normally when you renew your Air Bag (passenger) you also get the Black Dash Cover with it $1300, this is how the inflator and air bag itself and the vinyl cover is normally sold, and for LHD RX-8's in NORTH AMERICA including Canada the part number is the same for the 3 component assembly...this is the part number for the assembly..
https://www.parkmazdaoemparts.com/pa...&siteid=215334

As I said the RECALL-ed part is the Inflator only....which is NOT listed for sale in ANY Mazda GEPC.

I would ask the simple question, the Passenger side was done for the S1 RX-8 in Canada and USA and as the inflator is the same for S2 WHY is it not being done in Canada.

Seriously I would be talking to MNAO (USA) they are still in-charge of CANADA Distribution and find out what is the hold up....Good enough for Australia good enough for Canada.

They aren’t likely going to do anything more than they’re “required” to do. So there could be some unique factors relative to that country’s laws and authoritys which influence whether to eat their own money or not.

Generally speaking, the general attitude there is if they do it a certain way in the USA then it must be wrong ...

Part Number for Passenger Inflator is added on Page 1 of this thread.

Can confirm it is the exact same Inflator used on S1's and for all Left and Right hand drives. (all RX-8's).

Got mine renewed Today.

Virginia Ohio USA S2 just received my air bag inflators recall

I just received my inflator recall notice 9 March 18. I have an appointment next week to install. Has anyone has noticeable issues with the air bad cover on the dash post installation? My cover is pristine right now.

The Mazda dealer I took mine to did a good job, no scratches/cracks or anything out of the norm, but then again, I spent some time talking with the manager and he had a fairly good knowledge about the 8s and rotaries overall, in addition to later finding out that one of their lead techs is a rotary enthusiast, so I lucked out.

Don’t worry. My dealer did it fast with no ill effects. Service manager mentioned it’s a pretty easy thing to do.

I had something like this done on my Accord Coupe when I had it. It had an airbag recall. Nothing bad happened, other than the fact that they broke one of the string on the seat cushion I had. I wasn't so mad so the cushion was free and kinda crappy anyway.

Some people have worse experience than others. It all depends on your individual dealer and the person working on it.

Anyway, if someone gets hurt or dies in an accident because of the faulty passenger airbag, I am suing Mazda since there is still no recall in Canada.

I was also worried about this, when I took mine in a few weeks ago. They remove the glove box and replace the inflater unit from underneath. It took 15 minutes in and out. Nothing to worry about. Maybe remove the glove box yourself before taking it in.

Do you have standing to sue on behalf of someone else, e.g. are you a lawyer? Do you have very deep pockets, e.g. can you afford for Mazda to bleed you dry over prolonged procedural maneuvering? Good luck with that!

The lack of recall in Canada could be down to several factors. The Canadian government may not pursue such things as aggressively as other countries. It may not be humid and/or salty enough in Canada to cause enough corrosion in the inflaters to cause them to fail. IIRC the farther north on the recall urgency map, the less urgent the recall is. Etc.

It's an "if", and a big one at that. Of course I am not just gonna randomly sue them right now, but if someone is seriously injured or killed because of that, then I think anyone will take legal action. When a life is involved, it's not a moment to "suck it up".

I mean, look what happened to Takata. Didn't take that many injuries and deaths to take them down.

I understand the lack of temperature swing, but BC is a very humid area in winter. It rains almost everyday in winter, and the rest of Canada is very salty due to the snow.

Youthful idealism is so precious.

Here is what would actually happen with your lawsuit (assuming you could actually find an attorney to represent you). It would be immediately dismissed for lack of standing, unless you or an immediate family member were injured. Barring that, Mazda would asses your finances and maneuver to bleed you into bankruptcy prior to your first meaningful hearing. The end. It isn't fair. but that's how it works.

Statisticians have determined where injuries and deaths are likely to occur, and Canada does not seem to be one of those places, which means Canada will be down the list in terms of priority. It only makes sense--your outrageous outrage aside.

It's all hyperthetical. If something actually happens, I will definitely seek advice from someone with more experience, so I am all ears when it comes to this since yeah, I am young.

So what would you do if the airbag shoots metal into a family member and the airbag hasn't been recalled?

Also, Honda has recalled my old Accord Coupe for the airbag and I had it done long ago. So why isn't Mazda doing it? More limited resources?
