P2071 - Intake Manifold Tuning Valve (Stuck Closed)
Hi all!
Just got my car yesterday and the CEL popped up on the 400km trip home. Not mechanically savvy and have a little background on cars but I'd like to learn for when my warranty runs out. Anyway, after searching around, it seems that stuck OPEN (P2070) is the better of the 2, because if it's CLOSED (P2071) valve parts apparently may get sucked into the engine. So I have some questions:
At the very least, I'd like to try manually opening and closing the valve to see if it unsticks from possible carbon buildup. Edit: I found this DIY! https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-...-video-184663/ I'm trying to avoid voiding the warranty by tinkering too much. Will doing this or even testing if it's really stuck void the warranty? Edit 2: It was mentioned that if you're under warranty, let the dealership worry about it. So... Lastly, will it be ok to drive? I don't wanna drive it if something's gonna get sucked into the engine. Hahaha! Thank you in advance for your help! |
Not sure where the “parts get sucked in” nonsense came from. Have no more clue than you what an IMT valve is either.
Given your username, this is your engine on anarchy. Good luck with that. :) |
I don't know where you got the idea that parts are going to get sucked in.
Its not a fun job but see if you can action the valve by hand first to free ot. This is a bit of a sign the car was babied. |

.and this one? Same thing diff code ? The runner looks like a different part based on my searches thus far. Good luck with this one! So judging from the reactions here, it looks like I can drive the car without worries but better bring it to a dealer to get w/e is causing it fixed? |
My valve has recently been stuck fully open and the car will not idle. It's acting the same way as when the dealership left the intake muffler off and all that unmetered air made the car not idle. I have the code P2070 and all the symptoms. The previous owner of this car did baby it.
I guess I know what I'm doing today... |
