Oil overfilled, oil in the intake

I though this would not happen to the S2, but it happend to me.

kster 04-05-2010 10:18 AM

How much oil was overfilled?

Vyndictive 04-05-2010 11:31 AM

How is that possible? How are the S2 oil filler neck tubes routed? More info and pics please!

its looks just like this post except mine is S2
I think the filler neck hose is rerouted to the lower intake manifold. but its not it this time

how did you change it? did you jack up the car left and right?

Vyndictive 04-06-2010 05:54 AM

WTF? Why would they go back to the "old" hose routing for the S2????

Put it up on a lift. Did you check to see if they actually changed your filter...that could account for some of the extra oil.

Mazurfer 04-06-2010 07:52 AM

Didn't think it was really possible on an S2 either, but what do I know.
Thought the S2 ran it back to the maintenance ports?

Anyway.......on an S1 type.........pouring too fast can lead to this a well.

There's only one real cure guys.

Do the oil change yourself. Don't rely on what the manual says you need, as we all know that varies depending on how you drain it and how much you get out. Oil is supposed to be added slowly while checking the dip stick, not just pouring "X" amount in!

Or you can add the catch can and pour the oil as fast as you want! My filler neck to catch can tube runs up hill, so even if oil were to get into that tube, it drains back into the oil filler neck.

I still makes absolutely no sense why on the S2 they would go back to the '04-'05 hose routing.

the filler hose is routed to the lower intake manifold.:crying:
but there seems two hoses comming out of the filler neck
so Idk where that goes to probably the inkate?

Vyndictive 04-06-2010 01:36 PM

Edit:

Yeah... I would track down that other hose and see where it goes, see if it goes into the intake the somehow... there is no way oil is coming up through the LIM back up to the accordian tube... so its gotta be sucking into the intake from somewhere.

Mazurfer 04-06-2010 09:35 PM

Yeah, I'd agree with Vyn.........track it down!

Just for grins, I do have an extra powder coated black catch can for sale is anyone wants it! https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-parts-sale-wanted-44/f-s-various-stuff-163778/

Wow......that the first good look of an S2 engine bay I've seen. I can spot quite a few differences. Question..........is that strut bar OEM?

bumblebeerx8 04-06-2010 09:46 PM

yes thats the oem bar

nothing goes there. its emprty, the hole is never opened.

BG-8 04-07-2010 09:14 AM

they should've designed it without that extra port, it looks a little weird like that

Mazurfer 04-07-2010 07:09 PM

I agree and I spotted that as well.
Is that hole open.....meaning not plugged up?
I wonder if it should be?
If it is open, it sure seems to me that it would be sucking in a little hot engine bay air. :dunno:

That's the OEM strut bar for the R3 only. . . the other "normal" S2s still have the same two point OEM bar the S1's have.

Thanks for the clarification. :Peace:

EDIT: Seems not to be the case after others are chiming in.
