New owner questions
Hi All Fellow RX8 owners...
I just bought a 2010 sport 6 speed manual and I am loving it!
I know about keeping the RPM's under 4,000 for the first 1000 miles but I do not know anything else a new to rotary owner should know. If you have the time I would love any information on the following questions.
When do i shift? The owners manual says to hit 6th gear when going around 47 miles per hour (I might not have the exact numbers here) and I want to find out what everyone does about shifting.
Is the oil the dealer using what I should use? I have read many different threads on this and I am looking for a consensus if there is one.
Lastly, I would love to know more about "redline every day" and how it might relate to my engine break in?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might share,
Yogi

keep it gentle first 1000 mi then give it hell.
after 1000 mi shift point depend on how deep you step on the gas pedal. a rule of thumb is keeping it between 3000-4000rpm for normal driving. I usually 0-10 for 1st, 10-20 for 2nd, 3rd when 20-30, 4th when going between 30-40, 5th 40-50, 50+ for 6th. depending on uphill or downhill you can late shift or early shift depending on the load.
I think Castrol GTX 5W20 is a very good oil to begin with.
like I said, after 1000 mi, you can give it hell to keep the carbon away.

I basically followed the break-in procedure from the Japanese rotary mechanic's manual:

Do a search on oils since they are many discussions already on this site and make your own decision. FWIW, I use 5w30 or 10w40 Royal Purple.

Thank you for the pointers on breaking in!
First two days over 200 miles so far and all going great as far as I know... I am loving this car even more than I thought I would!
Happy Fourth!

Want a tip...look after your GearBox...
DON't Peak Change when BOX is COLD...takes about 20 minutes driving, take it easy until HOT.
DO, get the GearBox and Diff OIL Changed at about 3-5000 MILES....Don't let the dealer talk you out of it.
