Melted Exhaust Shrouds
Hey guys,
I just installed a Turboxs catback and took the 8 for a drive. After about 20 minutes I noticed that the exhaust shrouds (the plastic things by the exhaust we starting to melt. Any tips on what I should do? Thanks |
cut them out and make space for the exhaust tips.
|
get the new version of the TurboXS exhaust. They revised the tips to combat that problem.
|
You probably bought the one for the series 1. Series 2 exhaust options need to sit lower to avoid melting the bumper.
Most low/mediocre quality aftermarket vendors do not acknowledge the difference between series 1 and 2. |
Thanks for all the advice. I noticed this morning that the melting isn't too terrible, so I think I'm gonna let it be for the time being, but I think getting a new rear bumper could solve the problem. What do you think?
|
That would be a pretty expensive fix for just melting the shrouds. You can just buy adjustable exhaust hangers and have it sit a little lower in the rear.
|
Hey xexok, where can I buy these said hangers?
|
It would be cheaper to buy a Dremel tool and cut a larger hole. That's what I had to do.

https://www.rx8club.com/series-ii-aftermarket-performance-modifications-162/09-agency-power-exhaust-193474/ That thread talks about them. I think its an f1-z hanger, but any other similar ones should work. |

You could goto Home Depot buy a For Sale house sign made of metal cut it paint the forsale side if you wish, buy a rivet gun and rivets of course drill a hole in the shroud and put them on, done deal! also if you want the uber track look put gold heat resistant sticker :P
|
Yes Moby those look like the same ones. If the holes are the wrong size you would just have to drill them out.
Yokohamaboi has a good idea, they actually sell something called "exhaust finishers" that do that same thing. The price is crazy high though. http://www.mazdaparts.org/marxexfi.html |
Yeah about the same thing, probally everything together should cost 30 bucks if you know how to shop smart, plus it looks alot nicer. i was gonna do the same thing with my 08 rx8 but i said screw it and bought a MS rear spoiler, If you make the exhaust sit lower wouldn't it look kinda funny??
http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/pro...50852_zoom.jpg this is off a evo and someone should totally design somthing for the S2 RX8, S1 would look werid cause the plastic part is one piece. unlike you guys which are lucky LOL |
Thanks guys,
I did a quick fix tonight that stopped the melting and doesn't look half bad. All I need now is to wait for the new hangers to ship. Do you know where I can get a new pair of exhaust shrouds? |

Thanks Any Update on how these hangers worked out? Thanks much |
Sorry Chika, I actually haven't ordered the new hangars since the cables that I used are holding up really good and since the ones on ebay require international shipping. I am confident that any SI exhaust will work on an SII but you need to modify the hanging height. As long as you are flexible you should be fine.
