Keeps unlocking doors and lights come on

i have a 2009 rx-8 touring. when the car is on(no engine running, no LED lights on where the speedometer is at, just the radio), when i would open then close where the ash tray is at, my doors would unlock and the lights would come on. when i would do a firm touch to the steering wheel, the door or pretty much anything in the car it would also do it. does anybody know what my problem is? i hope its nothing serious :(

sounds like an electrical issue, possible a bad common ground. I'd say bring it to the dealer or stereo shop.

if i were to bring it to a mazda dealer, would it cost me for them just to check it out?

I take it your 3 year Mazda Warranty has expired? if it has not then a Dealer should not charge you.

But yes, it sounds to me like a bad connection, ground, or short.

Have you done ANY mods to dash area?
If so perhaps a pinched wire and or cut wire in a loom perhaps shorting out on steel dash panels?
Check fuses, any blown, any smell of burnt plastic?

I take it you have normal Switch Blade Key or AKE. (Key Card Type)

Yes my 3 year warranty is up. I haven't done any mods to the dash but I haven't checked the fuses. I'll check them when I get off work. And yes I have the switch blade key. Thanks for the info.

The pushing on the steering wheel one gets me, as parts are pretty isolated and insulated with lots of plastic.

I know you may not think it is related, but, just try this....this 'sort of' happened to my car on the day I picked it up new and got it home...it was stinking hot.

I shut the doors and interior lights would not go off, we also have puddle lights and they would also stay on....all my doors were closed...or appeared to be.

Anyway..just do this...take out your keys from Ignition...Open ALL 4 doors, wiggle (push in and out) on and off the interior light DOOR switches on the rear door striker and close your small back doors "hard or firm" first...then close your two front doors hard or firm...wait for a minute or two and then go in car and try.

In other words one of my two Door Light Switches was sticky, moving them freed it up, I never had an issue again...the TWO door light switches not only controls interior lights but also door lock actuators.
