2009 Rx8 Won't Start NO LIGHTS NO CRANK
Hey all. I just paid 50 dollars for a 15 minute cab ride because my rx8 wouldn't start for no reason at all. It's been driving great, new red top battery, relatively new starter and relatively new coils and plugs. 60000 kms on the engine. Went to start it all the lights came on and then I turn the key and boom nothing all the lights go out. Then there was a weird clicking noise that kept happening and the gauges kept sweeping. The security light was also blinking like mad. Nothing I did could get the engine to make a SOUND. I disconnected and reconnected the terminals and did an ECU reset and nothing worked. I tried deflooding procedure and it didn't work either (admittedly my approach was the quickest way). Anyone have any ideas? A fuse I could check tomorrow or a wire that may be loose?
HELP ! Thanks in advance. |

It's a new battery (2 month old red top) and the cables are new as well. Same time when it was installed. Also I disconnected and reconnected the battery probably 5 times and no change.

Sounds like a dead battery, new ones aren't always good.
But try the two engine fuses under the hood. |

Also it ‘could’ be Alternator not charging new battery....? Also check alt belt. |
Check the engine fuse under the hood.
Mine did the same thing. I put an ignition kit and a wire got shorted out popping the fuse. Inspect it closely, because at first glance it wasn't clearly blown, took a doublecheck to catch it. The flashing key light was the immobilizer system saying the antenna coil in the steering wheel is not getting a signal. If you can't find a bad fuse or relay, search for immobilizer troubleshooting. There is a process that gives different sequences of the blinking key light to diagnose a problem, that helped me track down the short. |
Is your battery in the OEM position, or is it relocated in some way?
Did you install a grounding kit at all? |
I went thru two Red Tops in a year, they are really shitty batteries ever sine Optima was sold. The last one I got is sitting in my garage as a paper weight since I did not bother with the warranty again and got the Odyssey. That said, it could be many things, you need to check that the terminals are tight and that there is no corrosion. Then load test the battery, not just check the voltage.

It ended up being a loose connection to the starter.
Thanks fellas |
Thanks for coming back and closing the circle.
