Another retarded reply..

Is it "missing or hesitant" ONLY at high RPM?..

1.was going to suggest maybe a Plug lead on the wrong Spark Plug, I have seen this happen before from a Dealer Delivery...

2. Could be running a bit rich, plugs fouling at high RPM, but should come good after a Red-line.

3. Personally I would not be revving it so hard when so new, each to their own.

4. Are you using the correct GAS?

Don't forget the dealer will know what you are doing with your car, it is just a plug in away.
Be careful of the "abuse factor"...

If you want to reset the ECU in 09's just pull the Blue 15 AMP INTERIOR Fuse LH Footwell, last fuse in the stack (drivers side for USA owners)..

I believe Ash is referring to his reply as another retarded reply because it he is taking a shoot in the dark as others are too at the problem not the OP. Just need take closer look at the post think you may be jumping to conclusions to fast. Good luck with the fix.

Be careful when you paraphrase...mate.

The Flashes on S1 are NOT related whatsoever to the 09 or S2, totally different ECU (PCM), so far there are no known recalls or problems with the 09 that the OP is reporting...

So whatever anyone suggests they are just "advising what may be the issue",
you really can't successfully diagnose a car on the Internet or phone, it has to be presented to a Mazda Dealer, particularly on a matter that is not common with S2's.

Given the RPM range that the problem is occuring in...could the problem be with the VFAD not opening at all? If I remember right it starts opening at 5250 RPM and finishes around like 7000 RPM or so. If it didn't open at all you would starve the engine for air and it would run like utter crap.

If you weren't referring to me, then great. I understand there have been no new reflashes. He has a new car. Was the ECU not programmed at the factory? I'm wondering if there might be some fault to the ECU programming straight from the factory.

So today they CEL came on so I made a apprt at the dealership for Wednesday. Hopefully they can figure it all out. I'll let you know what happenes.

I want to ask you a question.... Have you been Topping OFF your engine oil at ALL?....you know a rotary eats engine oil .... right?...

Sorry, if you know this but for some reason Engine Oil Level crossed my mind..

my CEL came on this weekend, so its going into the shop

Update
the cars at the dealership now they just called and ask me what type of fuel I have been using. I said 93. The cars is miss firing for some reason they don't know why and they will call back.

So it was the cat. They said it had melted, and gotten clogged. So they have to order one.

They have to replace the part I have to wait to Wednesday to get it back because they don't have the cat at there local parts depo in PA. But they did give me a rental car for the time being at no charge. The tech at the dealer said it could have been to things. First just a bad part from the factory or second what he believes happend is. If you flood the car witch i didn't but someone might have done it before a bought it but anywhy...if u flood the engine a high amount of gas fumes gets trapped in the cat and if you don't go through the proper de-flooding process the fumes can burn off really quick and hot and result is that it fries the cat. They said Mazda is aware of thus problem but they haven't resolved anything they just replace the cat and call it a day. So yes it could happen again but it's 100% cover with the warrenty even the rental. It did take them a few hours to find out the problem so when you go in mabey just mension it to them and if they have the part in stock they wouldn't keep your car for a couple days.

I haven't flooded my motor either, but the 2nd situation accounts for the discrepancy in miles between us, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was it.
