09 RX-8 Touring Auto

Past couple weeks there's been a few times ( 2 - 4 ) I went to start the car and there was a slight hesitation before it started, cranking a second longer than normal before turning over and starting. Then yesterday went to start it and it won't start it all.

It cranks and cranks but never starts, so if that happens on almost any engine, ( this is my first rotary, I have engine knowledge but not much as the ins and outs of rotaries. ) I would assume either no spark, or no fuel. Not either, both good. Concentrating on the sounds being made while engaging the startup process this is what I hear.....
Ignition Switch :
Off to On : There's a sound that sounds like a switch clicking, only once.
On to Run : High frequency whine, duration of 1-2 seconds then stops,
I thought maybe a pump or something.
Run to holding to crank it : Cranks like it wants to start, never does, the cranking sound doesnt sound normal though, a little lower tone maybe ???

I have tried the de-flooding procedure just in case a glitch starting up and flooded it. Nothing.
Tried jumping off to make sure the lower tone in cranking wasn't just not enough juice.

Any help, much appreciated, any more info needed, glad to provide. Thanks

How about some more details.....like how many miles?

When was a Service last done?, have Spark Plugs ever been replaced?

What is the condition of car Battery?..fluid levels? charge, could be due for replacement (new Battery)....they don't last forever.

Fuel Pumps have not been an issue with Series II's.,,,do you use a good fuel, is tank full?

Can you PM me your VIN number the JM1..............I can do some checks.

DON'T keep cranking until battery goes flat, otherwise you could flood engine, which again is not a normal problem with this series....sounds like you already have flooded it...maybe?

At a guess, I think your Spark Plugs need looking at or replacing and your source of power (Battery Charge)....Where you should first start....

OT -- Anyone else noticing a higher than normal rate of reports of S2 "flood" problems? I wonder if it has to do with years of service.

I wonder if it has anything to do with 'lack of' service.

But, not really, it is difficult to compare as vehicle numbers (vehicle park) between series is wildly different.

aye, lack of service is definitely something to consider.... perhaps a little of both.
