Speaker Grille removal?
 

Has anyone remove the S2 center speaker grill? or any kind of instruction manual?

It is a pain. Mazda says there is some little tool that is made for this, but I have no idea were to get one. I wrapped a small screwdriver with some masking tape and pried up from the back right corner. If I remember there is a small slot back there to stick a screwdriver in. There is some little tool that is made for this, but I have no idea were to get one.

Sorry to bump this one, but just wanted to inform those who want to try and remove this. It is FAR easier to just remove the center console, slide the stereo out a bit so you can unscrew the AC vents and then pull up from there. The speaker grill will pop off with the AC vents.

For those who want to try it the way mentioned by Kenpo, remember that the clips are in the back (facing the windshield) and you have to pop that section up first. DO NOT TRY AND REMOVE FROM THE FRONT. It has clips that slide under the frame for the lcd screen and you might break them or crack the frame.

How hard do you have to pull on the AC vents? Straight out or at an angle? I tried taking them off previously and it was hard as a rock.

I need to get under that area soon to put in a GPS antenna.

Anyone? I stopped doing the installation today because I couldn't get the AC vents off to get to the center speaker area.

I don't know, I must be mentally challenged or something. It's crazy tight.

You need to start low on the console and pull the stereo out to expose the screws for the vents and then the top piece.

Yeah, everything is out of my car right now, including those two screws. I may just end up running the 2 antennas (1 for Sirius XM, and 1 for GPS) through the middle console and up to the rear deck window.

This way both antenna have a clear view of the sky. I don't think the GPS accuracy should suffer that much, will it?

I am going to pull the console up to wire into the factory AUX input anyway. It felt like I was going to break the AC vents if I kept picking at it. Ugh.

My Sirius antenna works reasonably well when located under the rear deck. It is more sensitive to weak signals than the XM mounted on the roof of my DD though.

Possibly the best stealth place for a mount would be inside or recessed from the bottom the bananna rear spoiler. Lotta work though.

I ended up doing the same thing. Put it between the back seat and deck by the rear window. You'll never know it's there, it's hidden really nicely.

Drove around areas in my neighborhood where I used to drop signal when I had my factory Sirius on my GLi, and it never once dropped.

I also put the GPS antenna directly behind the AC vent from behind, and after driving all around The Bronx for testing, never once lost Sirius or XM.

I am a very happy camper now. :) Very happy. Now I just have to sell off my crAppRadio 2 to some poor soul in the FS/FT forum. :sweatdrop

i was able to do this with a credit card type plastic, will post picture later so you can visualize what we have to tackle.
