Spare tire bar - structural? need answer asap

Is the spare tire bar structural at all or just to hold the tire? Trying to get subwoofer box built and put in but not sure if the bar can be removed.

It's on a 2011 r3.

It can be removed without issue, it is optional and cars without the option are not equipped with it.
