Sirus/Sat Radio Option
On a R3 with out the Satellite radio option, can I add it with some OEM part? I see the little button on the stereo...
I know this sounds dumb but I'm asking anyway... |
Pretty sure the Sirius is a deal installed option so it should not be an issue.
|
Yeah you can buy the receiver at the dealer ship. It's like $500 with lifetime subscription.
|
Don't think it is a lifetime subscription

Correct, on the R3 it is the only option from what I understand. What are the chances that it is pre-wired for the antenna and all I have to do is plug into some harness in the trunk?

Have one in my R3. Wish I didn't maybe if I can figure out how to get it out, I can sell it to you.
Mark I am going to jump out here and say it would probably be more cost effective to just go with an after market head unit. |

Right on. It looks horrible stuck on the trunk the way it is. I was just hoping for something better than FM radio and it would give me some variety. I have 90+ gigs on my iPod and it doesn't do the trick...

You need to buy the factory Sirius receiver. I found mine about two years ago for under $200. The lifetime membership will cost somewhere around $300. I've had my lifetime membership for like 5 years now. I had it in my last vehicle before purchasing my 8.

I did the mounting myself outside where it belongs. It's relatively easy but takes about 3 hours to do everything.
The hardest part is getting the center speaker out of the interior without damaging it. Oh also, don't run the antenna wire through the headlight gasket as instructed, you WILL get condensation. Instead bring it to the weather stripping on the truck and run under that and inside into the paneling. If you end up doing it PM me if you need pointers. |

This step caught my attention. "The hardest part is getting the center speaker out of the interior without damaging it." This is not a step of the installation process for a 2005. Whats the purpose of removing the center speaker. Just curious. :dunno:
To get to the display that tells you what song, station, etc etc. There's a harness to connect to. |

I assume you meant "tail light" not headlight :) |

Pulled the rest of my factory Sirius radio harness out today. I can confirm that this is correct. One connector goes to display and one to radio. Both connectors have mates wired to them to connect the original cables to. I agree getting the A/C vents off and the center speaker cover off was a bugger and shouldn't be attempted unless your good at pulling interior pieces without breaking things. Center grill hooks under the A/C vent / LCD bezel and has clips all around. Probably best way is to start from the back of the center speaker cover with some of the plastic interior tools you can buy. I actually started from the front by carefully pulling the A/C vent / LCD bezel and was successful but I don't recommend it. Center speaker clips actually plug into the A/C vent / LCD bezel piece. |
No intention of hijacking the thread, but can someone tell me where the default mounting position is? I was going to order one, I haven't read any instructions, if anyone has them in pdf it would be appreciated. Factor/dealer > aftermarket any day. I love the factory stereo, to get satellite would be a serious bonus.

Default mounting is not very good. It is in the trunk on the right side. Zip tied and covered in padded tape attached to a metal bar. The install was definitely and afterthought.
|
I removed the Sirius radio from my 2005 when it was totaled. Does anyone know if I can move it into a 2011 model? I am reading about the two wires, one going to the radio and the other to the display. Mine only had a wire to the radio. I even went over the installation instructions and nothing is mentioned.
Thanks, |
