S2 shift knobs
 

is there anywhere online you can buy a oem shiftknob or aftermarket that has the reverse in the proper place? everywhere i search i only find the rx8 shift knobs with the R by the 6th gear instead of by 1st.

In the US market, that IS the original place for "R".
Where are you located? You could try a JDM/EU/AU site

located in florida....i must have a freak R3 model, because my reverse it toward 1st gear. :scratchhe
s2's arent different than s1's?

cool thats what i thought... now... no where else to get a new shift knob besides dealer? i thought of replacing with a mazdaspeed knob, but those are really ugly.

seems about the same price as dealer though with their 10%-20% coupons off parts / accessories they're always mailing me.

Yeah, shift knobs are one of those things that seem stupid to be so expensive...but they are.

Curious, but why not save a ton of money and just get a voodoo knob from goodwinracing.com? I personally think they feel far better than the stock knob.

Some people don't like the look of a ball knob, myself included.

+1 ball knob would look better in a roadster type car. doesnt seem to match the interior of the 8

ALL S2 Manuals in all markets Reverse is next to 1st...just like the NC MX-5 :)

OP, you could try MX-5 parts (UK) they may have one or something different or cheaper..

I just got one delivered to my house from Knobmeister for my buddies R3 that I am storing. It's a Voo Doo with the R3 shift pattern etched on it.
