FYI I ordered a bluetooth chip after I got the screen working. Next step is to see if I can get my android phone to act as a toggle instead of the joystick.

Just let me know when it goes into production;) I would love that. Your a genius man

Ty sir, except this device would only work for the S2's (2009+). The LCD on the S1 doesn't reside on the MSCAN, however, there is a guy on these forums who developed a product for your generation called the GOODBOX.

damn Paimon, Great Progress. I'm sure the S2 owners will be drooling.

jrx13 Jun 23, 2011 05:26 PM

So Paimon your taking certain addresses available on the HSCAN bus and then putting it on the MSCAN bus and then prompting the information display to show those addresses? Is this how all this works?

paimon.soror Jun 23, 2011 05:29 PM

Essentially. Basically what is happening is that I read from the HSCAN, save the data. I convert the data to a human readable string. Then I open connection to the MSCAN, shoot the string to two addresses, x290 for the first 5 chars, and x291 for the second 5.

The chip acts as the traffic controller, switching between 500kbps and 125kbps operations depending on what task it is trying to perform (HS vs MS)

jrx13 Jun 23, 2011 05:34 PM

Nice, I understand the basics, but that's about it! :)

I see a whole Mazda market for you, CX-7, CX-9, Mazda3, Mazda6, Mazda5, MX-5, Mazda2!

Heres another update folks

I want one!
But I don't have an SII ....

I know how to fix that!

Wait is it wrong to buy the accessories first before the dress? lol

paimon.soror Jun 24, 2011 08:45 AM

Lol!

Well if anyone can provide me the OBD2 pages and Information Display pages from the series 1 wiring diagram I can tell you if it will work. After talking with the creator of the GB we came to the decision that it probably wouldn't, but both ASH and jrx mentioned that they are the same.

The key here is we are leveraging off both the HS and MS cans

edit: Next step while I wait for the bluetooth chip to come in is to make the left and right clicks of the joystick cycle through different functions. Right now RIGHT goes to text mode, LEFT goes to clock mode. Clicking the direction twice puts it back to ECU mode. I will probably have it cycle through different modes probably [ecu, text, mil codes, clock]. I will have to investigate what else we can do.

jrx13 Jun 24, 2011 10:09 AM

Actually the information displays are different between S1 & S2. See the posts here:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-ii-technical-trouble-shooting-160/any-canbus-gurus-house-217628/

They are wired differently & ASH confirmed different part numbers.

paimon.soror Jun 24, 2011 10:32 AM

Gotcha, thanks for that, yea I feel like I read somewhere that the info display used some spi controls and whatnot as opposed to canbus addressing on the older gen. I actually think the canbus information displays became available with the 2005ish mazda3's.

very nice

99% sure these are some DTCs in a series I ROM. I believe Cobb just FF's them out.

https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1308936355

Does anyone know what CPU the SII ECU uses? If it is still a SH7055 with some new code, I can probably help some. None of this is my forté really, but I've reversed most of the table locations out of my AP. To the degree to which they are similar, that info may be useful to you, at least after I transfer it off of scraps of paper covering my desk.

However if you want to flash roms, then you need a J2534 device.

oltmann Jun 24, 2011 05:17 PM

Seems the SII has switched from the SH7055 to the SH7058. Similar, but doubled ROM/RAM to 1024kb/48kb.

another update :)

drifthappens Jun 25, 2011 09:50 PM

this is s2 only? I suppose I should get cracking for s1. lol

goodbox is nice, but isn't there a limitation that it needs the stock HU?

Yes the Goodbox requires the stock HU

drifthappens Jun 25, 2011 10:05 PM

which makes it sort of a no-go for me. (i plan to upgrade my HU so i can have all the goodies i want)

Jastreb Jun 26, 2011 05:20 PM

Very Cool! Would one be able to implement something like this with different hardware? I have a Gumstix COM w/ Robostix expansion board sitting around. Bought them hoping to have the time to play around with them, but hasn't happened yet.

paimon.soror Jun 26, 2011 05:23 PM

I am sure you could. The concept is virtually universal, the challenge comes into developing drivers for each of the peripherals that are used to read, send, and handle CANBUS messages.

So that dump that you have, was that obtained from the OBD2 via the AP?

oltmann Jun 26, 2011 10:51 PM

No, found it online. The AP dumps are encrypted with AES, and though they thoughtfully include the keys in all of their software, I didn't realize that until I started work on that rom.
I really need to acquire a cable from tactrix.com so I can dump/flash without the AP, but my hobby budget is at 0. :(

drifthappens Jun 26, 2011 11:37 PM

the cable from tactrix is a j2534, aren't rx8's j1979? Or is that just series one?
