So far have two boards built. The one on the right is using a newer design. These are working great so far so things are looking real good. I have one more revision at the fab shop that will reduce the size to one pcb board, and won't require a heatsink like the one on the left. Don't lose faith guys, just want to make sure to provide a quality product to you guys :fingersx:

Looking great. Purchased some Arduino kit a while back to play around with, and maybe teach my son something about electronics and writing programs (eventually!), and also awaiting Arduino-based TriggerTrap (a kickstarter project - maybe you could try that route for funding??) for my camera... Would love to use this tech in my R3 :-)

Thanks for the kind words. The Arduino is a fantastic learning tool and is a great way to interface to the ATMEGA microprocessors. I am considering different "packages" to provide people. A barebones kit like the one pictured above which wont come with a cable or any enclosure, or a complete kit which is going to be a single pcb board solution that I designed, that will have expansion ports, an enclosure, and cable.
This way I can provide people options for those who don't care about future expansion (considering SDCard logging support, GPS support for logging track layouts, etc). And want to save a few bucks which is not only a good thing for them, but a good thing for me as the board is far easier to assemble hehe. Again, all speculation depending on how the single board solution works out (which will be answered in the next 2 weeks). edit: Not sure of your programming background, but if you ever have any questions on your code or would like someone to look over your stuff feel free to shoot me a note. |

spent this morning building the custom OBD2 cables and running through more tests on the car. OBD2 cables came out awesome

I theory, once the unit is plugged in, with steering wheel controls, there will be no need to access the box again right?

the unit will have a joystick and a reset button on it just incase you want to control from the unit directly, but there really should be no reason so long as the cruise control buttons are controlling as expected |

Years ago when I was into car stereos I had a setup going into my head unit's aux RCA inputs that was a "piggy back" for running my Ipod and my play station into the single audio input. It would pickup which ever signal it was receiving at the time. or both of they were both playing at once. It looked like this. Attachment 235709 I wonder if you could have something like that as an available upgrade option for the OBD2 plug. That way the unit could be hidden up in the dash somewhere and still have the availability to plug in a scanner. If it was done on the inside of the dash kick panel, it would look completely stock like nothing is plugged in. But I wonder if the scanner will still work with your contraption plugged in. Or is it stealing the info that the scanner would be looking for first? |
you could buy an OBD2 splitter, and a scanner should work fine in conjunction with the RxDuino. I am not changing, extracting, or manipulating any signals on the bus.

I gave up trying to remove my back seat after 10 minutes after everyone (including you) told me it was as easy as pulling up. I miss the days when I had my 96 Galant and 06 Civic. I didn't give a crap taking anything apart in those cars since they rattled from factory...lol My R3's been ultra tight and rattle free, and I know I am going to break something if I take it apart. :mdrmed: |

I promise to keep the price reasonable. If turnkey quotes are far too expensive, then I will just build the chips by hand which only means that the turn around from order to delivery will be extended but I am sure you guys would understand that as each board will be getting some extra TLC from me :D Either way, before any prices are discussed, I will be working with the mods to get a group buy or something going. Stay tuned :) |
I have about 3 different vendors that are quoting me prices. This is fantastic news because I think that I have configured the RxDuino in such a way that it is going to come at a VERY reasonable cost, especially after seeing the initial quotes they provided. I will keep you all updated, hopefully these guys get me back soon :)
