Factory Bluetooth
Ok I've got a 2009 Touring so my car does not have factory bluetooth. Only the Grand Touring w/ Bose and the R3 also w/ Bose or if you have the touchscreen navigation system have them it I'm pretty sure.
Anyway I've got a 2010 Mazda3 rental car right now and I like the factory bluetooth in this car. I paired it to my android phone in less than a minute and now I can stream music to the factory stereo. I like this and was wondering (since I don't have it) is if you guys can do this feature with the RX-8 bluetooth as well. I've been reading the 2009 Service Highlights, and it does not look like the Bose stereo or the regular stereo are any different internally. The Bose amps and speakers are all external and all the wiring is after the stock stereo. There is an external Bluetooth microphone and an external bluetooth module and that's it. I don't have my 8 right now (since its at the dealer) but I am going to look and see if it is already prewired for this bluetooth module. I'm wondering if I get the module and mic, (and possibly the different steering wheel button) will I be able to get the bluetooth to work. SO, that's my question, are you guys streaming music from your phones to the stock stereo or is it just for making phone calls? If it's just for calls, I'll just stick to my headset. Thanks, Jack |
I recently purchased a 2010 RX-8 Grand Touring with the Bluetooths.
The owners manual does make reference to the ability to stream music over BT, if your phone supports it. My older phone does not have this streaming ability, but like I said, the manual makes reference to it. |

The stereo is just listening for ones and zeros so if the phone wants to transmit the music data the stereo will play it. So looks like I need to see if the wiring is already there in the car and start looking for wrecked series II. This got me hoping cause it sure is neat! BTW congrats on the purchase! I've had mine for almost a full year now! Thanks, Jack |
Somehow I locked my self out of my BT and have to call customer service. That was 4 months ago. . .
My phone on speaker wedged under the folded up visor works 100 times better than the factory BT. Just sayin... |

does not support bluetooth audio per mazda usa. the end.

I'm working on a way of adding Bluetooth with A2DP protocol to the stock RX8 stereo.
I did this on my previous car (not a Mazda) and really miss the slick integration I had with my Android smartphone. The A2DP is what you need to play your smartphone music through the cars stereo. The upgrade is in 2 stages; stage 1 gives you everything but using a dongle with separate buttons for volume and track change etc, stage 2 gives you direct control using the stereo's own buttons but this is more intrusive & requires some mods to the stock stereo. Will take a while, but will keep you posted... if anyone is interested? Cheers |
I'm so interested. I have a 2009 r3 and would love to stream my music from my iPhone which does support Bluetooth streaming. I know the 2010 r3 can so do you think it's just software?
|
No it's not just software, it requires a new module to be wired in.
I'm planning to add a Usb socket at the same time to give the option of charging the phone or ipod Deedub |
Has anyone done this or looked into getting it done? If so can they give some feed back.
|
Mypashaw i just bought a 2010 r3 and i can not figure out how to bluetooth audio. does the 2010 r3 really have it?
|
ChikaFreak both the 2009 and 2010 have bluetooth but only the 2010 and newer have the A2DP protocol that allow you to play music on factory head wireless. Check your owners manual for more information and congrats on getting an R3 you'll love it.

Oh I already do love it! I have check the owners manual but with no success. My friend has a 2010 Mazda three and he has no problems. All he has to do is pair his phone and hit the media button twice. For some reason i cannot get that to work. any other trouble shooting tips? Thanks |
Are you using a phone that has A2DP? Did you pair your phone with your car? From what I've read when you are in the process of pairing near the end of the set up it ask you if you want to set up for audio streaming.
|
I paired my friends Iphone 4 (I dont have a smartphone yet but want to get one if i can get this to work.)
I believe it has A2DP because he uses it in his ford escape. It never asked the streaming question you are referring to. I have a feeling the 2010 doesnt have it which really stinks because like i said my friends mazda3 has it. Or maybe like you asked is it just a firmware upgrade? |
I downloaded the 2010 owners manual and there is no reference to streaming music which is weird because the 2010 smart start guide for the 2010 Rx 8 say it does. Sorry my friend but I don't think it does. You could go to the dealer and see what they say.
|
I poked around on mazdas site and they have a Bluetooth compatibility page. For every phone when you choose rx8 it says not available for "bluetooth audio". oh well im disappointed but hey my 8 will smoke my friends 3 anyday.
thanks for the help |

I just bought a new RX8 2011 with navigation and Bluetooth, but that model wasn't at the dealership so I couldn't test it there. We tested a 2012 Mazda 6 with the same navigation and my iPhone 3GS (iOS 4.3.5) and the Bluetooth Audio worked -- was able to play music from my phone. But when my RX8 arrived, the BT Audio icon was disabled on the navigation screen. During Bluetooth setup, the option about streaming audio didn't display.
So I'm getting the iPod integration module installed. I found on Mazda's Web site that iPhones ARE NOT supported, however. I couldn't find ANY phone compatible with BT Audio for my RX8, so I wrote to Mazda customer service (waiting for a response). Does anyone know if the Bluetooth Audio through the navigation works for iPhone 4? I'm thinking about buying one and if it doesn't work, taking it back to AT&T since I believe you have 15 days to return it. |
Bluetooth + iPhone doesn't work but iPod Integration Module works with iPhone
The dealer installed the iPod Integration Module and it works with my iPhone (even though it's officially "not supported" by Mazda). They installed the
F197 79 CFZ module and the harness kit (C9F5 V6 029) for the navigation model. My iPhone (3GS) iOS is updated to 4.3.5. I connect my iPhone in the glove compartment, and can control it through the navigation screen. I can see all of the data about the tracks as I can on my iPhone (playlists, artists, songs, podcasts, etc.). I can also control changing tracks and volume through the steering wheel. The module also charges my iPhone while the car is running. It's too bad the Bluetooth wireless connection didn't work, but the iPod integration module works for me and sounds great through the Bose speakers.:)

Good luck. I think customer service is going to tell you no dice. The rx8 just doesn't sell that many cars and i think they didnt bother to upgrade the bluetooth. sorry

I have a 2011 GT with NAV, and I was as disappointed as you to find that I couldn't stream music from my phone or control my iPod. I found this kit that brags advanced control and says it can do both. I haven't got it, but I might get it this Christmas. I'm a little hesitant due to the fact that I put a feeler on this fourm and nobody has given any reviews, good or bad.

I was also looking into that kit for the Bluetooth and the HD Radio. I don't use or have an iPod/iPhone.
But too much other stuff to buy that takes priority over this purchase. So I just ended up buying a Belkin Bluetooth adapter from Amazon for like $50. I was about to just do a post about this actually. It will stream music from my phone and I am able to hear a caller over the speakers and it has a mic. It plugs into the audio jack in the center console. So far I'm pretty happy with it especially at the price! You guys have factory Bluetooth calling but I didn't so this is a nice cheap upgrade for me. I'll do a post about it with pics hopefully soon. |
I'm not sure I like the idea of having to play it through my aux jack. I get a lot of engine noise when I use that input. It kind of sounds like I'm running a blower. Plus, if I want to use that input, I can just plug the phone directly into it, no adapter needed.
|
Thanks for the input guys,
the belkin bluetooth adapter sounds interesting. The only bluetooth adapters i have ever looked at hook up through USB not aux in. I am currently using a headphone to headphone cable to play music from my phone. it winds up and i got it for 99 cents and free shipping from ebay, not bad. it works out ok because i just got the droid Razr and I plug the phone in to the charger everytime i get in the car anyway, so plugging the aux-in in doesnt become a big deal. Id look into getting the full aftermarket bluetooth kit but I'd rather spend that money on the series II Race Roots eyelids :ylsuper: haha for now i'm going to look into burning some mp3 CDs |

I like it but i do not need the ability to make and receive calls (i already have the ability to do that with the stock head unit) I dont want the stock head unit and this adapter BOTH picking up my calls. do you know if there is a way to disable this feature of the adapter? Thanks UPDATE I answered my own question. I am looking into getting this device instead. This device auto connects to my phone which is a feature i want. If i do not want it to be used for my phone i can go into the bluetooth settings on my droid and select that i want to use it for media only. |
So I hate to drag up an old thread, but that's what using search does. Was there ever a solution to getting A2DP to the 2009? I bought a '09 R3 yesterday and am wondering if there is a solution, or if I need to look into a new head unit.
Also, what would happen if I bought a '10 R3 head unit, and put it into my '09? In theory, that would also give me A2DP. |

I have a '10 R3 and it DOES NOT audio stream but it does accept and connect phone calls. I got this Griffin bluetooth adapter and hooked it up in the center console and it works great to stream music from my phone. This was the easiest and cheapest solution that I could find. Congrats on your purchase! |
I'm getting this Neo Car Audio :: The leader in OEM integration. adapter in the next couple of months. I'll let you all know how it works.
|
Thanks for the replies. I just miss the steering wheel controls, guess I'm pretty much SOL no matter what route I go. :(
|
Don't be so sure. The Neo boasts "Advanced Controls". You may be able to control it from your steering wheel. Like I said, I'll let you know how the integration is with the factory radio, but it probably won't be until after Christmas.
|
Yea, but I've a 2009 not a 2011, and the only '09 option seems to be a FM Modulator. Fingers crossed yours works though! I've got this thread bookmarked, I'll check back after the new year.
|
I'm going to attempt to ask here before creating a new post.
I have '09 GT with NAV, I have Aux1(i know where that is). But my NAV/Audio system has 'AUX2' and 'IPOD' as audio options but they are FADED! I don't really care about AUX2, but the IPOD option I would like. Do I need a certain module to use this feature? what's recommended? |

So far with the neocaraudio system, it's been a bust. The BT audio doesn't work, and there is almost no control with the iPod. I've been back and forth with the company and I've gotten the runaround because it's "supposed" to integrate with the Satelite radio differently than it actually is. They even sent me a new module and it "worked" the same as the original. I'm thinking of getting a Parrot interruption style system. We have one in the Magnum and it worked fine for the first few years. Now it locks up whenever you try to control anything from it, but the BT audio streaming still works fine. Has anybody had any luck with any system? I'm willing to spend some money as long as the integration and control is decent.

Streaming music through bluetooth on Rx8
Not sure if anyone even checks this thread anymore but I have an 08 rx8 40th anniversary grand touring and it DOES come stock with bluetooth (I also have the bose system). The bluetooth or Blu Logic button is a grey button under the stereo where the ashtray is. Its where one of the lighters would be. I looked through my manual and the other booklets and couldnt find a damn thing about it but I did get it paired after figuring out the pin code. I made a call and it wasnt as loud because it comes out of the speaker on the dash. I tested the music through it to see if it would come out of the speakers and no dice it would only come out of that one dashboard speaker. It seems like mazda hasnt released much information on it and everyone is confused about it including myself. I would like to hear my music from the speakers if thats even at all possible. Also I do NOT have the screen that ive seen a lot of people talking about. I have a simple audio setup no aux port cd only with the sat button etc. I also bought the car and one cord was hanging down. Its a phone cord as odd as that sounds. it seems to run through the dash. Does anyone know what the hell that is?
|
I have 2010 luxury came without navi or Bluetooth from factory. Problem solved with a Belkin Aircast booth receiver that plugs into the aux jack in glovebox. It receive calls, stream music wirelessly and even work on the iPhone navigator speech reminder system.
|
I just got an r3 and realised soon enough about the audio streaming issue. I was really surprise to hear my gps software (navigon on iphone4) through bluetooth. It shut radio, tell the exit or street to take and bring back radio. There must be a way to use that same protocol for media.
|
I have the 2009 RX8 GT with the nav screen and I cannot get my ipod music to link either. I do however have a "ipod" option but it is grayed out under the source screen. Why would they put the option there if you cannot link it. I have read and reread the manual and it only talks about talking through the Bluetooth. There has to be a way to connect and I am still looking.
|
There is a thing you can install at the Mazda dealership. Do NOT go with the neocaraudio. I got a Belkin BT receiver that plugs into the AUX input. It actually sounds really good and has good controls for an iPhone if you have one. It just has one button, but it connects with your phone, plays, pauses, skips, and answers the phone if you're using the Belkin to talk on the phone. I have an iPhone 5 and it has no problem being connected to the Belkin for audio and the car system for the phone at the same time.
|
Amusingly, my quick start guide (which I finally got around to reading only because I was stuck in the car and bored) says that the last step to phone pairing is to set whether you want the phone to be used for BT audio. The owner's manual's instructions are verbatim except for the part about BT audio. The nav unit has a grayed out source button for BT Audio, so I thought I might be pleasantly surprised should I bother to pair my phone. Nope. That step is not there.
Right after I bought the car, I checked with the dealership and several other sources to see if there is a BT audio add-on like there is for iPhone. I never found anything. I have been using the iClever Himbox for several months now, and it works pretty well. I keep it stashed in the armrest and don't use the handfree phone feature. |
Bluetooth adapter connected to factory iPod connector?
Has anyone tried those cheap 30 pin Bluetooth adapters on eBay? The idea is you plug it into the factory iPod connector, pair your phone with the Bluetooth device and stream music.
Has anyone tried this? |
Hey guys hate to bring up this old thread but I just have a quick question.
I've set up the BT in my '09 R3 and everything and it works well actually. The only problem is that I have to manually connect it every time in my iPhone settings. In the words, I have to go on my iPhone and into settings>bluetooth>Mazda each time I turn the car on.. Other BT cars I've connected to will just automatically remember the device and auto connect when the car is turned on. Any ideas on whether this is the right way of going about it? |
Were there any other phones set up on the BT in the car? I had the issue too, I deleted all the connection on the car, reset it up as the only one and it now automatically connects.
