Bluetooth kit for Series II?
I've seen one for the series one, but is there any equivalent for the series ii with the stock radio (Sport model)?
|
bluetooth was a factory option on the S2.
|
^It was only available for Grand Touring and R3 only, though. Sport doesn't come with it.
I'd say just look for an aftermarket option. I haven't seen it as an OEM accessory anywhere, and unless you like doing wiring work, it's not really worth it to rip one out from a GT/R3 at a junkyard. |

The Series I has this kit available: https://www.gtacarkits.com/product/m...phone-aux-kit/ I haven't found anything like it for the S2, though. |
Find out what you need, I have an R3 parts car, I'll make you a good deal.

Depends what you want to do with the Bluetooth. Bluetooth on the R3 and GT only allows to makes / receive calls and does not allow audio streaming.

With my factory navigation, it even shows the Bluetooth audio option, but it stays grayed out... It also never asks if I want the phone to be used for streaming audio. |
Can confirm too, have the factory Bose system on a GT and it only does calls.
I use something like this, plugged in the aux port: |

syflex auxmod

So this might be a dumb question, but has anyone ever tried swapping the bluetooth module out of another Mazda that does allow music streaming? My 2010 Mazda 3 will stream music over bluetooth but my 2009 R3 will not.

Nowadays BT is usually built in the head unit, you'd have to change everything. Which is what I'm doing, just ordered a new head unit and all the additional stuff from Crutchfield.

BT Kit -swapped
When I bought my latest 8 (2010 GT 6spd with Factory Nav and 23k miles) the BT came locked and after repeated calls to Mazda they wouldn't give me a code to unlock it. For $650 I could get a new one. So on ebay I got a used one for $60 and in 10 minutes swapped it myself (it's in the back under the center console between rear seats. I thought that I would possibly get the streaming (on the Nav screen it does have the BT button) but it is still grayed out. Perhaps a brand new BT unit would have allowed this...got to wait on that upgrade if I want to try and if this works I will post again. Just got BHR Ignition kit and doing tune up so out of cash for now.

I know on some cars like my previous 08 Accord Coupe, the radio requires a code to unlock after every battery disconnection, and the code was recorded on a card. If you lose the card, you just go to the dealer and give them the VIN, and they will give the code to you. I have disconnected my RX-8 battery a bajiliion times now and the unit never asked for a code. Personally, I have a Bluetooth to AUX adapter in the centre console. $24 and works for me. I also have an AUX cable sitting there, too, and most of the time, I just use that. |
Yes, it was a shock to me the system came locked. The original owner put a PIN on the Bluetooth connection, which has since been discontinued. I tried hundreds of codes 0000, 1111 and more and it was still locked. It was super simple to put in but if you aren't handy you could get socked for $650, unless you wanted to get an aftermarket head unit. So now I have the original Nav and I use a ProClip mount for my iPhone 7+ and a belkin adapter that charges and has a headphone out to the aux. Works great.

Was the car sold privately or through a dealer? |
It was a used car dealer and that is one thing I didn't have tested before I bought the car...never crossed my mind to try it. When I called him after the fact he did ask the Mazda dealer down the street to help but they could only help by sending me a copy of the manual that said to try 0000 and 1122. Additionally, I really had to push him to help me as it came with only 1 key and a replacement credit card key is $420. Sorry sort of a long story for a simple answer :)

I simply put in a BT into the AUX jack under the arm rest: Griffen iTrip AUX Bluetooth adapter. Works great and has decent sound (not as good as playing a CD tho'). $20 at WMT.
|
That syflex auxmod looks like a better permanent choice. Does it draw any power when the car is OFF?
|
My set up only draws power when my iPhone is in the dock, but that power source is live all the time.
|
AFAIK the Bluetooth option only works for hands-free calling and does not support audio streaming. There is an icon on the head unit for BT, but it is disabled. I have a 2011 GT in excellent condition, and my BT doesn't work for audio either. I use a BT adapter off Amazon that plugs into the aux port, so I can hear that sweet, sweet engine whine.
I have heard rumors of an BT module that was a dealer option, but I have never seen actual evidence of it. |
My Griffen iTrip AUX Bluetooth adapter has no interference. Audio quality is decent (but I much prefer real CD audio quality).
|
Still no possibility to use USB dongle for playing MP3 files in RX8 R3 (Series 2)?
|
No. S2 doesn't even have a USB port stock.
I just said screw it and bought a pack of CD-RW. I have a disc reader/burner that's lying around so it's really not that bad. You can get an aftermarket head unit if you want the functionality that badly. |
It's sad :(
I'm using sometimes AUX to the 3,5 jack, but that sound is not good :( Thats pitty that we can't use this |
