Series II OEM front & rear splash guards

5 Attachment(s)
Just thought I share. I didn't see anyone else have pictures of the factory OEM splash guards installed. I really think Mazda screwed up on the price of these mud guards and got them backwards as the fronts are way bigger. The rears msrp are $250 and the fronts are about $100.

Yes I forgot to close the trunk all the way before taking the pictures.

At first I was a little bit "ehhh" but seeing her from the rear made me change my mind. (Thats what he said)

I thought I read someone say that there were no mud/splash guards for the S2. I guess there are now. How did these install exactly?

paimon.soror 10-03-2010 07:44 PM

Hrmm, hasn't grown on me yet, but maybe someone here will eventually get some for a mica S2.

Looks like they bolt on (I can see the screws from the closeups) and probably screw in the wheel wells too?

That is what I was guessing since adhesive would be undesirable in that location. Maybe it has a wrap around mount that uses the wheel well liner for mounting? That would make sense for an OEM part. Why didn't these come on mine! I have an R3! and it should have everything cool imaginable! WTF :hahano:

paimon.soror 10-03-2010 07:57 PM

Haha agreed, I will be at mazda tomorrow so I will check to see if they are even offered at the dealerships. Heck maybe they have a nice mica in stock that i can test fit to see what it looks like lolz

jrx13 10-03-2010 11:22 PM

The rears are just bolt/screw on. The fronts have some screws and some adhesive and you have to trim the "stone guard" just like series 1s. The splash guards are available for all series 2 except aurora blue (R3) I believe. And of course if you have side skirts, the fronts wont fit.

1stgen8 10-13-2010 08:06 PM

Glad to see they fit. I went to a local dealership several months ago looking to buy the rears for my R3. The guy in parts called Mazda direct and was told the rears will not fit the R3. I don't see why they wouldn't fit cause your rear bumper looks just like mine.

Are you the guy I see on Sunset Blvd in SF sometimes? I'm usually going southbound while you're northbound?

PeteInLongBeach 10-15-2010 07:43 AM

Does anyone know if the rear splash guards include the piece in front of the wheel, or only the piece in back?

jrx13 10-15-2010 08:42 AM

They only come with the piece in the back. You should already have the front piece, right? As long as you don't have R3 side skirts.

No, there are no skirts at all. All indications seem to be that you can only buy the skirts in back of the rear wheels, but I've seen cars with small skirts in front of the rear wheels also. Where do these come from?

Wait a sec.....is your RX-8 an automatic??? I guess automatics didn't come with the piece in front of the rear wheels like shown in my pictures. So they didnt come with a trunk lip spoiler or those rear wheel front splash guards. Google search shows a "Type 1 side skirt" for about $170 msrp each side. (The R3 ones are considered Type 2). I don't think the Type 1 come painted.

Wow it seems I'm still learning a lot about Series II.

Actually, I'd prefer the longer Series I side flares in back, but I don't think they are available in any of the Series II colors, so will have to get them painted.

I'm guessing this is gonna get expensive...

I can't find any pictures on Google, or Mazda's US site, of a SII with that little side skirt in front of the rear wheel. Did yours come stock? Perhaps it was an option, like floor mats technically are.

Polish Person 11-29-2010 04:58 PM

Actually, there are a few on the Mazda site. Still though, not on them all.

Yes they are stock.

I'm pretty sure they came standard on any 2009+ manual transmission car that was not an R3. In other words, any model that came with the lip spoiler standard from the factory.

Perhaps it's exclusive to GT or Sport models, as I know I've seen manual ones without them. Which do you have?

They aren't mentioned on the standard exterior features list, but they aren't in the accessories either.

Either way, they look good! A white SII RX-8 is my favorite kind of RX-8.

PeteInLongBeach 11-30-2010 01:07 AM

When I went into the dealer to pick up an oil filter, I confirmed that these splash guards are available as an unpainted "replacement part", and they are not part of any accessory kit. As I recall, they aren't horribly expensive either, maybe $20-$30 or so, however he cautioned that they do not come with any templates for installation (as a kit would).

Mine is a 2009 Touring with a manual transmission. In 2009 there was sport, touring, grand touring, or R3. In 2010 and 2011, they dropped the touring model.

I do like my white SII! I had to drive to southern california to get it and it was the last white sport/touring 6speed anywhere in the state. (I did not want leather so was not looking for a grand touring). Wish they made a white R3! Would've of spent the extra money for that.

I'm slowly going to try to convert mine to R3 stuff (got the wheels so far) so I plan to buy the R3 side skirts maybe next year. I'll be taking off those splash guards in front of the rear wheels.

@Pete
That seems really cheap! When I checked last time they were like $170 msrp each non painted. Hope your parts guy looked them up right. This is what I found:

Is he all knowing? Haha. Cause all the parts confuse me.

Having the R3 side skirts makes having them redundant. Where would you mount them?
