Looking for a recommended R3 car cover
 

I have been searching on here for what people with R3's have been choosing for car covers... The dealer was to supply one in the deal and after waiting over 6 months I have one that clearly was not designed for my car... I managed to stretch it over my rear spoiler and thats it... The front air damn is also not covered properly... Recommendations would be much appreciated...thank you in advance

Take that one back and make them find you one that works. Make sure that R3 is clean before you put it on.

I've picked up ebay covers, the nicer looking ones, before with good result. $50-60 but the care it was put on was done more for storage. The paint was all ready a loss and not a concern.

How about a PVC frame with clear plastic painters drops for material? No touching and easy access. Suspend it from the ceiling. bam! Patent that!

Buy a 8x8x10 car port with a zip up door. I wouldn't recommend a car cover at all, eventually all get dirty and scratch ur car even the dealer one. Said car port is about $250

I'm with Zum on this one. Plus, if you live in an area that gets lots of wind, you'll end up with dull paint spots caused by the cover flapping on the surface of the car.

Thank you for the replies... Spencer and zumn, that is exactly what I have is a 12X20 poly porta garage... I also have my shop/ garage... The area I live in in Northwestern Ontario is all pine... The protection I needed is when I have work in progress in the shop or am visiting inlaws away from home... It is hard to find an area where the trees are not spewing sap.. I am allways washing the car especially before the covering... I also must note that from the end of October to the middle of April the car will be parked as it is winter here...we still have 3 feet of snow and it is almost the end of March...yuk! I would also like the cover for covering it in the portagarage for extra protection... As spencer says I should return it for something that fits... One option I have had is to have the rear section restitched with an added panel of similiar rip stop nylon to enable covering the curves.. These covers are a very tight fit and fortunately with all the trees in my yard the winds are usually higher... I will let you know what happens, Thanks again

I have 15 pine trees in my front yard alone, but then I also have a garage. I know what you mean. As for visiting with the in laws, I suggest you buy another pre-owned car for traveling purposes. Something under $5-7 grand and less than 50k, you can even shoot for a salvaged car. Something that wastes a lot less gas will end up paying for itself. About two years ago I purchased an 09 salvaged title Toyota Yaris hatch for $5k with 3k miles. Youd be amazed how a Toyota Yaris will get you from L.A. to San Francisco on $40 of gas @ 70 mph. 300+ miles right there without stopping. You own an R3, consider it very hard. Good luck, talk it over with the wife, lets us know what happened.

Its kind of damaging for me to think of getting another car thats easier on fuel... For one, you have to realize that I am only able to drive the R3 6 months of the year so I guess you could say I am saving fuel for the other six...no wait my other vehicle is a gas hawg F350 I use for work and for plowing...thats similiar or worst in gas mileage.. And if I really want to get the thrifty on fuel feeling, I have to just take the Rv down to visit them...That sucker costs $250 to fill the tank.
You have to put yourself in my shoes, brand new R3, incredible handling, 2 1/2 hour drive normally, windy road through hills and lakes, no houses, no businesses, no people, just a few swamp donkeys (moose), maybe meet 20-30 vehicles on a busy day, maybe one officer to every 3 or 4 trips.... The yaris wont cut it...On the other hand, that is a very good idea has my alternate winter vehicle..
Darn it, now I am going to have to go out to the mazda cave and sit in it for awhile. At least it appears to be getting warmer...

I've got a 12x20x10 tent car port thing I acquired from Costco. It's not as ugly as you might expect and is far more attractive than some others I have seen in the hood. I'm in a nice but older area in Austin with no HOA. Mostly older people who don't care about that kind of stuff. It went for $250ish retail and would work for this situation. I would be very curious as to how many seasons it would last in your environment.

I think the UV rays are as damaging as the cold.... The real killer is the snow.. you have to keep it cleaned off.. If it dumps a good foot or so, that really is alot of weight and they can tear especially where the fabric goes over the frame supports.. For durability, I have found the grey fabric to be the most durable and have one that is over 15 years old...the door is wind damaged but still keep the sleds in there... The yellow fabric is susposed to be real good also and reflects alot of heat..They can be found a little cheaper also, here anyways... The one I am using is a lighter duty one with smaller frame tubes and a white, tarp type of fabric... It is going on 4 years and still in excellent shape...After I pull the snow off after a few good storms, the side walls are covered in snow to the eaves... The costco ones I have seen in Canada are very good value... Most people respect others personal property around here and we are lucky that way... Those cheap shelters are just so handy for many things... or just a place to sit and have a cold beer...Just remember to use the large screw in anchors if you live in a windy area...they will leave a nasty dent if it blows away..

I think you are right Jedi!! I found these covers for sale on ebay...The weathershield fabric which is one of the best for in and outside use... They, however have one model for all Rx 8's, it is G2 and they say it fits the R3 on ebay, it would be nice to hear from anyone else that has one of these covercraft covers...they must be a little looser fit on non R3 or spoilerless cars... Thank you very much for your help...I believe this warrants a call to covercraft tomorrow to get some answers..

I say no car cover. Portable building? Storage? Umm... Friend's house?
