Best Tool to Gut Front Grill?

I want to cut out all the small holes in the grill that aren't actually holes to increase airflow and make the front look a little better, as I hate the filled in faux holes. What's the best tool for this? I was thinking of just drilling them out, but now I feel like a Dremel might be perfect, but I've never used one.

Any suggestions?

i get that you're new... but seriously... do a little research before you start a new thread in the future. i guarantee you'll find your answer. this forum has been around for years, and you cant possibly imagine that you're the first person to ask that question.

Polish Person 09-01-2010 01:21 AM

I did search. I tried 'dremel', 'grill' and something else, but I forget. All I can ever find are unrelated threads with the word tagged in some abstract place.

Edit: Sorry. I searched 'dremmel' by accident the first time, according to my history. My bad. But really, these parts of the forums don't get any use so what's the issue? And I can't find pictures of a gutted grill, which is mainly what I'm looking for. I want to see what kind of edge it will leave.

just spend a little time reading all the wonderful information on this forum. there's years and years worth built up... just take a little time and read.

and you'll find that drilling all those little holes out is fruitless unless you have serious mods going on under the hood.

:uh:

That's why I'm trying to find pictures, but the only person I can find that's Dremel'd out the holes doesn't have an albums posted.

And it isn't about function. I really hate when sunlight hits the grill and it's obvious that only 50% of the holes actually go through. It's all about looks, and I admit that.

Don't bother. I've seen it and all of it's revisions. I think the guy finally ended up cutting out a hole and riveting in some mesh for the best flow.

I spent a couple weeks reading whatever interesting thing I stumbled upon around the forum before I starting posting. May not seem that way, but I learned a lot about everything from S2 revisions, to bumper removal to exhaust fitment.

Do you see how only a few of the holes in the front are actually holes? The rest are filled in. I want to drill those out for a more functional look.

The post above you was taking about the small slits in the wheel well behind the oil coolers.

The area that you are trying to cut open will not help you at all. There is a crash bar behind there. That is why there isn't any holes there.

The crash bar is recessed slightly from what I can tell, and it's towards the top, more behind the thick solid bit of the grill I thought?

And I know it won't help. Many people have pointed this out, and I've seen the discussions over it all over the place. I still want to do it as I think it'll look better.

That would be her in the avatar. Hence the name foxeyl8y.

shadycrew31 09-01-2010 02:32 AM

If your wondering I'm trolling your posts.

I'll be "around" til the mods ask me to leave.

FoxeyL8y 09-01-2010 02:34 AM

Was just curious. It was a nice picture and she didn't have any albums, so I asked.

And I thought a mod specifically just told you to stop trolling?

alnielsen 09-01-2010 02:55 AM

He posted that before I told him to stop in the other thread.

Sigh. All I wanted was some pictures. I know people have done this mod, but I can't find pictures for the life of me. Is all this other fluff really necessary?

Gr8Bullet 09-01-2010 03:33 AM

People like to give people a hard time cuz there new.... Don't take it the wrong way... We've all been there...

RX8inSTL 09-01-2010 09:33 AM

The time it would take to cut out all of those holes would be forever and i highly doubt it would look good since you would probably mess up on one of them and ruin it, I did. I just took out the whole grill and bought a mesh grill and am using that instaed.

The Reverend 09-01-2010 09:36 AM

just go buy a dremel you will use it a lot
