BTW, the car in question was a US model, that WAS done in Italy. It is a test mule that was used for the tuning
Well, they don't have a huge reputation here so i dunno what to say and their claims are absolutely unrealistic.
Increased power by 14 Hp
Increase torque by 15 Nm
Decreased fuel consumption by l/100km

http://www.piasiniengineering.com/index.php?id=75
That's just bullshit, you aren't going to see a 14hp and 15nm increase with a standard, off the shelf tune on a stock car. You'll barely see those gains with a ported engine with a full exhaust and a free intake set-up after a tune!
That's plain bullshit and a smoke-selling attitude, i'll get the roast anyday.

Great, I never got a response to my email so if you could elaborate on what you need to create the tune that would be great. The email I sent you was from redmonds@satx.rr.com.

Was it the torque that did it for you too?

Nah, the torque is OK (it is in newton/meters, so you have to multiply it by .74 to get pound/feet), though it doesn't quite line up at 5252 like it is supposed to (looks pretty close, though).

I've dynoed quite a few S2 RX-8s and they all make the same sort of power as the S1, that is to say 170 - 190.
This one is making 205+ at 8200 RPM or so.
And it is doing so at .85 lambda!
It picked up power by going a 1/2 point richer from there (to an AFR of 11.7:1 or so), which is completely counter to every RX-8 ever tuned by anyone, anywhere.
NA RX-8s, almost universally, make the most power at .90 lambda.

based on the platform you have been working with, I would say I see your point.

Again, the whole point here was to show what can be done.

Baseline dyno from a load cell dyno, datalog with 5-4 parameters from a good quality logger, and your ecu. Thats it

Sorry never saw your email, might be traped in one of the spam filters!

Wanna give some input....like what program/unit you're using to tune, etc.? We're dying here, haha

We use the Piasini Engineering Serial Suite to read and write the second Gen Denso ECU.

As far as I know, we are the only company in North America that can do the Denso for these cars. In fact, not sure but I think we are the only company in the world with tuning solutions for the entire Mazda line, as well as most of the other Asian, and Euro manufactures

I'd like to be able to tune my car myself or with my mechanic on a dyno (a la: ECUFlash (for Mitsu/Subaru), AEM EMS, etc...). I would hate to have to drive across the US for a tune, and it not be right when I upgrade. Is it possible to get this equipment/software myself?

No need to drive across the country for a tune; simply log the ecu data in your car during your dyno runs( or in a presribed manner on the road) and send us the information, along with the ecu. We will take that info and look at your mods and tune your ecu to make it perfect for your car.

Due to the nature of the new MCU used in the second Gen Denso, there is not an end user option, and we don't have plans to offer one due to cost, sorry

Ah, now I see why Cobb (and others) did not offer an end user option for Series 2, too hard and costly..thought about as much.

How much would something like that cost? If it as easy as loggin and shipping an ECU to you, I would definitely be interested in that!!...

This maybe a stupid question, but is there a certain Data Logging Device that you guys prefer to use or deal with?? This has got me all curious and excited lol
I can get a used ECU to send in for about $250, ship it and get it tuned for ~$425 (not including Data logging Device)...doesnt sound half bad to me...

Ok, a couple of things to remember when doing the extra ecu deal you mention; the gen 2 has the mazda immo system on some of the cars. We are not sure why they did this, but in simple terms if you decide to go with the junk yard ecu, try it in your car before you send it in. If it will crank and start, your good, if not you have immo.

This is not a huge issue, but if you want the second ecu to run in a car with immo, it needs to be cloned first. We can take care of this for you also, but we need your original ecu along with the second ecu. Process takes 24 hours and can be done at the same time as the reflash.

Ok, to your question on logging; the best logger on the market for this application is from innovate motorsports. If you want to buy one, the OT 2 is a perfect match for the rx8 and will do everything you need, and has some cool features. If you want to just use a logger for this one time, we rent the professional unit from IM called the LM 2

Hope that answers your questions!

Wow thanks for all the info. I will definitely be looking to guys in the near future. It looks like you guys will be, pretty much, the first to openly say you can tune a S2.

dynotronics1,

$400 to flash? Is that per flash or a one time fee? What happens if Mazda has an update and overwrites the existing flash?

Also for FI tuning this does not seem like a viable option. Tuning needs to be done in real time with multiple datalog runs and tuning needs to be incremental in its changes.
