Assuming the crank angle sensor is the same , the Powermod guy seems to think it would work .
As far as pinouts go he has not tried it so does not know if they are the same .

I do know where there is a unit that could be cheap enough to use to test out ......

Crank angle sensors are the same...Mazda Part Number, so I they are the same...

Over to the smart asses who want to argue they are different.

Is the ecu used in the S2 that much different from the S1? Sure, they probably changed pinouts or something just to **** with people... but is the ecu model different? Are there different sensors in the S2 than the S1?

i know this would be a year away, but is there a possibility that the rx9 and rx7 will have a similar ecu setting? if the ecu is similar maybe cobb will rethink accessport for our s2. is there any possibility of this happening?

Just like the RX7 continued to sell in Japan... the RX8 or something with the S2 Renesis will probably be sold until a global rollout of a new model. The most likely place to look for any sort of ecu mods for this engine will be Japan. Which will make setup, installation and tuning less than pleasant!

i would like to go the turbo route in the future depending on how the future plays out (hell if i kno) so im assuming ill have to go w/ a standalone, but i have no idea what id be doing so id be looking for professional (experienced rotary tuner) help. still hoping cobb will change their mind (unlikely). besides, anything JDM will require modifications to the wiring harness and other stuff i dont know about (correct me if im wrong. i like correction because its a chance to learn). haltech has some good stuff so if anyone has experience let me know what ill be looking at.

thanks in advance

Full standalone is a serious serious hassle. And if you have to pass any sort of emissions tests/inspections where they plug into the obd2 port you are boned. The port just does not work with standalones.

After having a Motec M4Pro on a Subaru for a bit... I never want to deal with that again.

are there any other ways to do this other than going the standalone route?
from what ive read, a piggy back could work but is not preferable since it cant handle ignition timing very well. is it possible to run something in parallel a possibility?
i have no idea what that would entail. and i dont need to worry about emissions.

wouldn't the FSM show you the pin-out?
That I would think would be the easiest way to tell the difference.

is it expensive ?
i heard alot ppl saying " change ur ecu , this and that .. can make ur car go faster "
does it means by really changing ur whole ecu unit ? or just the ecu chips ?

There are many different kinds: Standalone, piggybacks, reflash, etc.

The main thing you want is a "tune" for mods or to extract the most potential out of your engine. Google "engine tuning"

A search would give you the right answer to this question: No, the accessPORT will never be available for the s2 rx8 and is discontinued for the s1.
Piggy backs won't work well, stand alones are expensive (and often a wiring nightmare).

The cobb was really the only thing worth buying, nothing else will provide the same results and you will more than likely end up with problems.

At the end of the day, is the 5-15whp worth all the money and headaches anyways. Put a midpipe on your car and a ram air duct, cheapest power you can get and will actually yield you something.......noise mainly.
