Please assume I have no knowledge of materials or processes involved.

I am getting an engine rebuild soon and I was offered a street port. I have limited knowledge about this, however as I understand it, I would receive a semi-noticeable bump in power in the mid range. My bigger question is regarding reliability and tune. As best as I can tell, ill need a tune. I see versatuner is still around. Does the base purchase of versatuner come with pre-loaded tunes for a street port? Also, does it come with tunes to get rid of CEL for DECAT?

You won't get anything but what the engine made in a factory shape with good compression(that is, if the rebuild is done well). The rest is snake oil sold to you so that you pay literal 1000's of $ for that porting service. Of course they have to claim you'll make power with that at least on a few 100s of RPMs somewhere in the rev range, with an equally worse or even worse downgrade in other areas. They never mentioned that, did they?
