Demo version of VersaTuner for RX-8

Here is a link to download a demo version of VersaTuner for S1 RX-8. It is nearly identical to the S2 version. There are a couple more tables in the S2 version. Check it out for yourself.

Cool Thank you.

Awesome, looks very capable and intuitive. I like that I can log of my elm327.

Steve@VersaTune May 17, 2017 02:47 PM

ELM327 logging rate is slower than hard wired due to the latency of bluetooth and the general crappiness of $5 ELM327 knockoffs.

TC4Tay May 17, 2017 02:50 PM

Yea, I figured it would be but it's still nice. Once I buy the full version, I'll be upgrading the Bluetooth dongle as well. Still, very nice software. :beer05:

am I seeing this right, VT doesn't have SSV actuator RPM adjustment?
All other tables look neater than Mazdaedit, but the labeling is not quite complete, looks like the Open Loop tables are just called Air Fuel Ratio 1/2/3, which presumably is gears 1-2/3-4/5-6 and it's nice that 5-6 isn't blocked out as with ME, but...are there stock maps available with better names? and SSV support? it also seems that when clicking on a table cell, the below map doesn't show you where you are on that map... sort of frustrating to fix specific map areas...

Steve@VersaTune Jun 23, 2018 03:55 PM

The AFR tables do not appear to be per gear. Testing points to APV state being the 1/2. We will do more testing soon.

Brettus Jun 23, 2018 06:04 PM

The afr tables are not per gear as Steve pointed out ...however , what table is used does jump around at high rpm in the higher gears . It's for this reason I adopted the 'make all the tables the same' approach many years ago . This is the only sure fire way to do it . If Steve uncovers more info this would be valuable to us all!

sil80drifter Jun 24, 2018 10:03 AM

Yup, I made tables for "gears" 1-2/3-4 the same in ME, as I figured there was no point in "by gear" fueling (even in boosted applications I prefer to control boost with my foot, not a boost-by-gear table).

So SSV research is being done for VersaTune? I saw a mention of APV up there. Having seen what ME can do, it may be worthwhile switching to a more complete tuning solution like VT, once its more complete.

Steve, this may have been answered somewhere else, so please excuse me if needed, but does the software work with the Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 cable that I already have? It looks like it should, but...

Steve@VersaTune Jul 27, 2018 09:22 PM

Yes. Tactrix Open Port 2.0 is supported.

Hi,
Does-it work with EUDM Rx8?

Yes. All markets are supported.

For the folks asking about SSV and APV (and why not throw VDI in...), have you guys dyno tested to know why you'd want to change Mazda's setpoints? Seems like with basic bolt-ons the TB, IM, and port characteristics are unchanged, not sure why you'd want to change the variable intake setpoints...?

Steve@VersaTune Sep 26, 2018 07:29 AM

I found that moving the APV opening to a higher rpm softened the dip when it first opens. That was on a SCCA T4 car with a restrictor plate though. Our new dyno is up and running. I'll play with it some more once I get a RX-8 test mule.

Slightly old thread but still relevant, in order to use versatuner would a J box be required for communication or just an ELM cable? I haven't heard any mention of needing one yet so I assume no but clarification would be appreciated, Thanks everyone!

Steve@VersaTune Jan 25, 2020 10:24 AM

An OBDLink SX is the least cost option at ~$35 on Amazon. Any ISO/SAE compliant J2534 pass-thru cable should work. VersaLink, DrewTech Mongoose, Tactrix Open Port 2.0, etc. are J2534 complaint cables.
Avoid ebay clones of name brand cables. They have incomplete firmware or are of very poor quality and will either fail prematurely, or worse, brick your ECU.

TheRedRotor Jan 25, 2020 10:53 AM

Thank you for the swift reply! Definitely wouldn't be going for the cheap stuff not worth taking a risk for an extra $100 or so. Has the random cutting out issue at WOT I've heard about been tackled yet?

Steve@VersaTune Jan 25, 2020 10:54 AM

There appears to be a bug in some calibrations with the launch control code that causes this. We are still identifying which calibrations are affected.

XDragon8 Apr 20, 2020 04:43 AM

I'm interested in VT, not so much the demo version. I would want to know the bugs are sorted though before any cash is handed over. To be honest I do like the VT interface from what I have seen more than ME.
I have also been looking into ME so we will see who gets my cash. Subbed to VT shop car thread but still not sure.
I am NA on an MT old original engine that needs some slight mods to basic things we have all read about.
Convince me Steve! I'm not in any rush.

The ECU reset bug has been identified and fixed in all calibrations that have been reported as having the issue. If anyone is still having the problems with this, please email support at versatune dot net with your calibration information and we will get it fixed asap.

New rx8 owner

Well I just got myself a 2010 rx8 for my birthday with only 13,000 miles on it. I was looking for a tuning platform.
I come from the ecoboost world and am curious if anyone has tried e blending. Not so much for power but for engine temps? I’d take both but seems these have heat issues and that is a good way to help.
