Cobb!!!

How can we get cobb to make an access-port for us S2 guys man:confused: !must be something we can do:puke:

RIWWP 03-23-2014 10:41 AM

Um. Nope. In fact, they don't support any naturally aspirated cars any more. MazdaEdit is the solution for tuning Series2 RX-8s.

Here is the thread: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-eng...daedit-239275/

It starts off figuring out stuff and a bit slow, but don't get turned off by that. It really is a completely viable solution for S2s at this point, and several S2 owners are tuning just fine on it

J6speed 03-23-2014 10:47 AM

ya I Know Just a Little frustrating because the s1 guys can just use the cobb and reflash there 8 and the price difference too i believe.

RIWWP 03-23-2014 10:51 AM

Price:
MazdaEdit personal is $250, plus you need a $170 cable (which you can probably find cheaper), so $420.
CobbAP is $500.

Hardware:
MazdaEdit requires you to have a laptop
Cobb gives you a device that can give single data point live data, but can also fail/overheat/etc...

That's about it. They are otherwise just two different pieces of software that enable editing of the ECU's flash, and both can reflash just fine. If anything, MazdaEdit has the advantages.

J6speed 03-23-2014 10:59 AM

hmmm interesting because the shop the guys go down here which is pretty reputable (rotary Werks) told me he has mazda edit and that what he uses but i would need to buy and adaptronic as well! and that he will tune it on that

J6speed 03-23-2014 11:00 AM

with the mazdaedit*

RIWWP 03-23-2014 11:01 AM

Um, no. Adaptronic Select is a $1,700ish piggyback. MazdaEdit is flash based tuning. You do one or the other, not both. Take a read through the thread I linked.

J6speed 03-23-2014 11:56 AM

ya my bad i just re read what he told me when i asked him about tunning my s2 "you can go with the adaptronic im a dealer for them but is pricey, anyways all those piggy backs to tune the stock ecu are trash , you can tune them but is judy very risky"

RIWWP 03-23-2014 12:05 PM

Yeah, the Adaptronic Select is the only viable piggyback, since it completely controls fueling by itself, it also allows you to go to MAP based tuning. Other piggybacks still let the ECU control fueling still, so the ECU will slowly over-write the piggyback changes until your engine blows from being too lean. But then, the Adaptronic Select is more of an ECU replacement as far as the engine is concerned, and it's priced accordingly. Only a few hundred off the ECU replacement I have for my MSM.
