Performance Mods. Help!

I need some help modding my rx8. Bought it brand new and have had it for about 3 years. I have recently hit 30k miles on it and I think it's time for adding some performance. I have been looking at a couple of intakes and I am leaning on the short ram side, possibly INJEN:)But I really DONT know where to start to add a couple of horses under the hood. I do live in California so emission laws are pretty strict :( I will very much appreciate some advice on where to start, such as intakes, exhaust, etc. Naming performance brands with it would help too if it's not much to ask. THANKS!

Welcome,

You can start by searching. This site has been around for 8 or 9 years and every question you can think of asking has been answered.

Since you did not mention if you are up to date on maintenance, maybe start there. At 30k its time or about time(depending who you ask) to change plugs, coils, maybe even wires since the wires are cheap off of rockauto. Have you changed any of those items? Search and decide if you want to change coils or not, but plugs definitely need to be changed.

I will say that if you get an intake there is only a few options, AEM/Mazdaspeed CAI or the racing beat box with their duct. If you buy any short ram intake all you are doing is paying to lose performance.

Yes very true. I have been browsing through a bunch of threads and it seems like it is about time for a plug, coils, and wire change. Mazda Dealership replaced my coils the 2nd time i took it in at about 10k miles(cant really remember), when my CEL came on. First time CEL came on, they said my 8 had a misfire. 2nd time coils were replaced and havent had the slightest issue since. Plugs and wires will be replaced for sure pretty soon. Any spark plugs recommendations????

I believe the Racing Beat intake is CARB approved. I don't know about the others.

Stock plugs are the only way to go. You can get them at autozone for 19.99 each, but tell them you have a 2004 rx8. They don't actually have the NGK plugs listed for the 2009 model, but they are the same. Make sure you get two trailing and two leading plugs, one has a T at the end the other has an L.

xexok thanks. Will do. And i might just get the racing beat intake with their duct. since racing beat specializes in rotarys!:icon_tup:
