Magnaflow Exhaust for S1 and S2
This is now in stock (QTY: 14 available) with Magnaflow, at $1323.45 each. Twice the price of some out there.
Anyone have experience with the magnaflow exhausts on RX8's? Any opinions? Exhausts on the RX8 seem to be only for minor weight loss, exhaust sound change, and barely any power improvements. What is the point? Looks better? I have an R3, and I can't stand those exhaust tip covers that are basically covers on the exhaust tips. It really annoys me, but the exhaust sounds good, and performs just fine. Any real reason to upgrade? http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/d...rtnumber=15823 http://images.magnaflow.com/02produc...s/15823_lg.jpg |
You hit on the main reasons for upgrading: aesthetics. If you want people to hear you coming and to have some bigger tips, get a new exhaust. If you're expecting big HP gains, you will be disappointed.

Its a stock-like-two piece .... i wonder how the pieces interconnect. I know the stock exhaust is stamped between the cat pipe and the rear section to seal the exhaust.

The clamps on the bottom left of the picture. The clamps never work good enough I always get mine welded if I buy an exhaust like that.

I had this muffler, lol both versions. It sounded nice, looked nice, if there were any performance increases it was minor. same diameter as stock except the tips are bigger, oh its also alot lighter. minor benefits but not for the that price, i'm sure you can find it cheaper I think rx7store has it for a cheaper price with my video being featured :).

Nice, the sound is alright, but I still feel like it is a big waste of money to get a new exhaust (my opinion). I also notice people swap their exhausts a couple times, which I think is crazy.
Thanks for the link!

Ya eh!
I agree with you there. Nice Avatar, cool perspective.

Hey ya eh!!! .... I couldn't agree more. These aftermarket exhausts sound a bit different and not really worth the expense IMHO. But everyone is different. If you had to pay this anything over $600 for a OEM exhaust because for some reason your stock exhaust system was done, then I would pay the extra for the additional sound factor.

How could I be jealous of a car that has less power than mine stock.....but I do love the way your R3 rides....velvety smooth and just the right amount of stiffness.....something that is hard to achieve aftermarket...

I thought they both had the same power and it was just the gear ratios that made the newer one a bit slower? Like 42/43mph in first vs 37 mph, etc or is there something I am missing here.

In that case, any recommendations on the best performance exhaust for a 2009 RX8?
I heard there are some fitting issues with 2004-2008 exhausts on 2009+ RX8's to keep in mind.

The factory exhaust is a 2.5-2.6" main pipe with 2.25" exits. This particular cat-back is of the same pipe diameters. If you would like to improve potential exhaust flow and have a slightly "healthier" tone, one may want to look for something in the 2.75"-3.0" range (most of which will have 2.25" exits).

Adam I don't think there is really much gain at all with an aftermarket exhaust other than sound and possibly minimal hp. There definitely are fitment issues with most exhausts on s2 rx8s. The only real issue with fitment is the exhaust tips are to far up when putting a s1 exhaust on an s2. Another guy a few threads down just used some type of adjustable hangers that let him drop the exhaust down a bit at the end. Look for the thread titled "09 agency power exhaust".
You could just go with a racing beat exhaust, they make theirs to fit an s2 if you order the proper one. |
