Exhausts available for R3 models???

hi all

i recently just bought a 2010 Rx8 R3 and was starting to look for an exhaust. i found a couple but most are for the series 1... are there any exhausts for the R3 model available at the moment besides the Racing Beat Rev8?? im not crazy about the sound of the RB.

thanks!!

You can modify any of the exhausts to work with a series 2 rx8. Search around this forum someone posted exactly what must be done. I think that the tips need to be lowered in order to clear the shroud, but search and make sure.

Anyone who install their s1 exhaust to his s2 car?

I want to get an exhaust other than RB

Did you completely miss the only 2 posts already in this thread?

brian1507 02-07-2011 11:06 PM

which post are you talking about?
I didn't see anyone who install s1 exhaust to his s2 rx8
I know lowering the hanger will fit it but i wanna know exactly....maybe including pictures.

xexok 02-08-2011 04:32 PM

You can either extend the hanger to lower the exhaust(have a shop do it), bend the tips down being careful not to fubar your exhaust, or you could have a shop chop the tips off and re-weld them at a lower angle so it clears the shroud.

As far as I know those would be the 3 best ways to make a s1 exhaust fit an s2 car. I think bending or cutting and re-welding the tips is the better option that way your exhaust should still be snug up to the car and not hanging to low.

Thanks it really helped.

or you can just buy a AP mid-pipe and custom HKS canister ;) with piping.

Mysticalsnake 02-10-2011 05:44 PM

OR you could also just take and slightly trim the bumper. If you do it right and carefully no one will ever know the difference. Not to mention it's cheaper if you already have the equipment to do it

9krpmrx8 02-10-2011 05:48 PM

I have a 2010 exhaust on my 04' temporarily since I sold the HKS and I had to have the tips raised so the plastic shrouds would fit. The hangers and everything are all the same.

Just get the RB or one made specifically for the S2. I think Borla is looking for volunteers to develop a setup for the S2.

The problem with getting the RB one is that it is not loud enough. From what I have seen its barely louder than stock. I know I am not going to get much performance gains from an exhaust if any so might as well go for sound.

I would let borla use my car right now but all those deals are always in california and I dont want to drive 300+ miles there with 2 cars and have to drive all the way back when they finish. It would be worth the money for sure but 1 to 2 weeks without my own car + all the driving is not.

It sounds really nice on Jcabbi's Auto 2010 GT with the Revi intake, with a BHR pipe it would sound great.

I think I am going to go for the agency power midpipe + exhaust combo when I get the $$. Loud but doesn't seem to be a "bad" loud from the videos I saw.

Not sure if it will be to loud for me or not, have not heard it in person but if anything I can always get a different midpipe or go back to the stock cat.

We have a local member with the AP and it is very raspy IMO.

Mysticalsnake 02-13-2011 05:49 AM

i need to finish up other priorities i have going on right now and get out and take a video for you guys of the rotary performance race pipe (single resonator, no cats) and the Exoticspeed R1-T on my car. It's VERY loud though. So, if that isn't your thing, this isn't a combo for the feint of heart by any means.

It does sound good, no rasp really, but it basically sounds like a crotch rocket, especially in the upper RPM range.

Racing Beat Midpipe + Exhaust FTW

It is a bit quiet just cruising around, but when you get on it.. heaven

Also, cruising on the freeway you wouldn't know I had a full exhaust system. I consider this a good thing, and so does my brain - drone is no fun

At freeway, is it quieter than stock? Or at least quieter than the stock R3 exhaust? (if the R3 is different from the others). My R3 drones madly on the freeway.

Rufledt 02-15-2011 07:03 PM

The R3 exhaust is the same as the normal S2 exhaust. I notice a bit of a drone with mine, certainly more than you'd get on a camry, but it's a sports car and I like the sound. If a RB midpipe and exhaust has the same cruising volume but more when you get on it, i'd love that personally.

Same here. I like a quiet car at freeway and driving below 1/2 of redline and at light throttle, but want it to open up and sing (scream?) at WOT redline. :)

Thanks for the info on the R3 vs. std S2 exhaust. Is the S2 louder than S1? we test drove a 2007 GT, and later our 2009 R3, and the R3 seemed significantly louder from the get-go.

Wert4580 02-15-2011 11:23 PM

I'm not familiar with the S2 exhaust, but my RB midpipe + exhaust produce a sound a few minute dB higher than stock... Which is to say very quiet - I was trying to notice a change, and there is a slightly deeper tone at cruising but it hardly permeates the cabin. If I rode in my car (observer's perspective), I wouldn't know the exhaust had been modified. Absolutely 0 drone on the freeway, or driving around for that matter. Although if you want an exhaust that is loud at idle, the RB exhaust isn't for you.. I wish it were a bit more noticeable when off throttle, but the sound it makes as you get on it makes up for the quiet.

I don't know if it is much louder, but the exhaust after the catalytic converter is different from S1 to S2, though all S2's share the same exhaust, and all S1's share the same exhaust. I think I understand what you mean, though, because I remember the GT I drove felt much more refined and comfortable, but that could have just been down to the nice ride and softer seats. I know one thing for sure, when I drove the R3 I wanted to hit the gas more! That would cause more noise. :yesnod:

jrx13 02-16-2011 09:02 AM

The S2 exhaust is a bit "louder". One of the changes was a "low exhaust pressure muffler with larger tips"

You can check the 2009 spec deck for that info.

SpencerM1 02-16-2011 08:01 PM

If you only want 'aggressive sound' at WOT then perhaps a intake is more suitable for your desires rather than an exhaust.

lucifuge 02-17-2011 03:44 AM

The racing beat exhausts don't sound deep at all to me which is what I'd be wanting, unless its the quality of the audio files.

SpencerM1 02-18-2011 09:43 AM

those videos don't really give a decent idea of what it sounds like. Idle has a nice rumble with the RB. Putting around town under 30 is suddle but when you get on the highway it gets louder.
Its a non-ricy exhause. No drone, no rasp, and not annoyingly loud to others.

camcorder videos seem to have really poor audio quality, especially in the bass region. I've noticed this with a lot of "how it sounds" videos.

I've recorded exhausts with a decent measurement microphone, and when played through a stereo (or good headphones) instead of PC speakers, it sounds FAR, far better than the youtube videos of exhausts do.

RogueTadhg 02-18-2011 03:59 PM

Most PC speakers suck.

There's another option, if people want to take the longer route. modify the sound to mimick the sound of the exhaust at that time. It takes time, patience and good software but you can try to get rid of that "Its my handheld" quality.

I have the agency power on mine and all it took was some adjustable poly hangers designed for body kits:yesnod:

I just installed a mid-pipe to my RB cat-back setup. It sounds a little meaner but not too much louder. Nice little power boost too and I'm not saying placebo. 4' flames when parked, no shit.

I'm looking at the RB single tip cat-back and their mid-pipe too. Not sure if I want the resonated mid or the non res. Either way though, how about the check engine light? Obviously that comes on with the cat delete. Any way to defeat that? Or just live with it?

no-piston 06-18-2011 09:36 AM

i have rx7 store midpipe and rx7 store catback....i put the non fouler plug trick and i premixe = no check engine ..

showtime-rx8 07-13-2011 11:44 PM

I know this is sh***y quality, what can i say im like every other youtuber who uses his phone for videos but any who. Here is a video of outside the car. The Racing beat Midpipe no res, and catback single tip.

lucifuge 07-20-2011 05:18 AM

i'd love a HKS legamax premium ....but they arent for S2's. Wonder if its a question of simply using other hangers!

usiris208 07-20-2011 07:28 AM

Correct. From what I read on the forums all you need is hangers and or some other tweaking

Race Roots 07-20-2011 10:38 AM

Any Series 2 owners want to give our single exit a whirl? I would be extending a special discount on one unit just so I can know for sure if it will fit and what is needed to be done to make it happen.

Shoot me a pm if anyone is interested!

how much of a special discount we talking?

I just got the AP midpipe and still have my stock exhaust, I have heard great things about ap midpipe + racing beat exhaust. I know you have a different midpipe but how much more sound did the exhaust give you over the midpipe, or did you install them both at the same time? The sound I have now with only a midpipe is just about right(pretty loud though), I wanna go with a bit of calmer exhaust and I heard RB exhausts quiet down the ap midpipe rasp as well.
