Custom LS2 Ignition Install

For those of you who haven't been following a few other threads I have been posting in, I have been working on a DIY LS2 ignition installation and finally got around to installing it yesterday. Here are some shots of my work:

i love you guys ;)

how are you grounding them?

the harness has a ground running from each coil to a single grounding wire. That wire is grounded to the engine's ground point right above the coils.

Bravo, monsieur!
I've just enjoyed another episode of "Paimon Presents..." :)

How tight is the fit in the engine?

paimon.soror 03-23-2012 08:37 AM

oh it's in there nice and snug ... took me a hell of a time getting in since the mains harness runs right around there. But i use all the same mounting holes as OEM so it is bolted in there and doesn't move around ;)

haha, derp derp derp, you would think I would have seen that

Motomouse 03-23-2012 07:57 PM

can we know how much it cost you in parts ??

paimon.soror 03-23-2012 07:59 PM

I managed to get the coils at a really good price (100 total for all 4), and then the wires and boots cost me a total of roughly 100. Throw in the sheet of aluminum and the screw dowels, and i would say about $220, and if you throw in the OEM coil bracket it would be a total of $260

edit: forgot to throw in the RX8 -> LS2 harness which was another $100 .... so we are looking at about $360ish

TeamRX8 03-23-2012 10:48 PM

don't forget the PnP wiring harness cost ;)

paimon.soror 03-23-2012 10:51 PM

^ aha! thanks, edited the post

RotaryTherapy 03-23-2012 11:07 PM

Where'd you ground yours exactly ? Others told me to ground on the driver side somewhere. But my PnP wiring harness was long enough to routed directly unto the battery's negative terminal.

paimon.soror 03-23-2012 11:27 PM

there is a bolt right above where the coils are. There is something already being grounded over there, so I just tapped into that.

TeamRX8 03-24-2012 09:25 AM

eventually you will need this too, regardless of coil/wire type

Beautiful little tool that is a mainstay in my toolbox now. That was an awesome DIY Team that helped me diagnose a bad BHR coil. (Which Charles promptly replaced!)

olddragger 06-08-2012 08:52 AM

does anyone know what the S2 dwell tables show?

This is more common than people realize. It does not get discussed openly much. I developed the DIY troubleshooting a brand new BHR assembly that came with a bad coil. It was promptly replaced once I brought it to their attention. There is no magic at work here. These can fail no different than an OE coil for all the same reasons.

Unless they have access to the OE map how would they and why would it matter when there is no tuning solution to access and change it?

Joe814 02-12-2013 01:02 PM

What coils did you use. D585s? Where did you find them at that price!?!?

paimon.soror 02-12-2013 01:03 PM

D585s and i got them from a member here :)

Joe814 02-13-2013 12:40 PM

Damn!!!! I'm trying to hunt some down

C Del 04-04-2013 02:41 PM

Forgive the ignorance, but what is the advantage of using LS2 coils? Higher output voltage/current? How does this compare to BHR's ignition kit?

Novoken 06-28-2013 06:06 PM

looks great!!! so you cant use rx8 8.5mm wires?

TeamRX8 07-01-2013 09:29 PM

if you don't adjust the PCM dwell table they make less spark energy than the OE coils from around 5000 rpm to redline
