Yokohama Advin S Drive Tires...

Anyone hve them on there 8? If you do post some pics! I'm thinking about getting them?
:)

rxtreme 05-26-2008 11:13 PM

I am interested in peoples impresion of these tires when compared to the Yokohama's WS4...the according to tire rack, the WS4 outperforms the s.drive in most categories despite it being an all season tire. Which doesn't make sense, but it would be a no-brainer if true.

DOMINION 05-26-2008 11:22 PM

I just read in Modified mag about them. They used them on a RX-8 and got a great review! "They had to peal them off the wheel!" Sound like driving on fire!

db_8 05-27-2008 03:48 AM

based on the ratings on tirerack, the s.drive would definitely go on my 8 once it needs new rubbers.

I have them and they drive well and are almost the lightest 245 available.

well rxtreme i work for yokohama tire corp and can help with an awnser . you have too look at the class of tire like the W4's are an all season tire and a certain set requirments are present in the class that another class may exceed or fail . are new s drive is a high performance tire and is in a higher class with higher standards for dry traction. so if the rating for the w4 is a 9.0 in its class it might only rank in the 5's if it were tested in the class of the s drive. this is the same with all tires look for temp ratings tread compounds when buying tires. some of the tires we make cant be used in 35 or below temps but can take a corner 100 mph faster than standard tire :-) it just depends on how you want to use it

DOMINION 06-04-2008 04:48 AM

I only see 35 or below temps for about 2 months out of the year lol and thats sometimes only around 11pm - 5am!

Can anyone who has the s.drive on an 8 comment on loudness. I am finishing up a set of KDW-2s and you can't here anything in the back but the tires.

DOMINION 08-18-2008 06:10 AM

^Well its sports car and performance tires are going to do that.

kainis2k 08-18-2008 08:11 AM

What size of these tires will fit on the 04 stock 18" rims? I'm trying to read up on the sizing and its like Japanese to me... (I know its a totally noob question but I am learning) :)

PBlue 08-18-2008 09:20 AM

Dont care for them much, they are loud and not as grippy as my s03 pole positions that i had for a very short time.

I do recognize that, but some are better than others. Since I have a 3 yr old daughter who rides in the back I would prefer a slightly quiter tire to make it easier to talk to her and let her sleep when she will.

PBlue, thanks for the comments.

At this point I'm down to the General UHP and perhaps the Falken FK452. The general's because they have decent reviews and are the least expensive and the Falken because I have always liked there tires but having only driven them on other cars and never owned a set I'm not sure its worth the extra money for a daily driver.

Just something to be aware of, the s.drives are still in pre-production in size 245/35/19 and won't be available until November at the earliest. At least that's what Discount Tire told me when they couldn't get 'em in that size. Ended up going with the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS Pole Positions in that size instead.

RXallan 08-22-2008 08:23 PM

I have them. 225/45/18 on my stock wheels.

They are pretty quiet, but don't really have any grip.

Two things I hate about them :

1. They dont have any immediate response. If I yank the wheel I get lots of understeer, where as my old khumo SPT's were very rapid to turn in and provide lots of grip.

2. When taken to auto-X events, the tires are really greasy the first lap, the second and third are better, but by the fourth / fifth lap they are out of grip again. I guess you cant really expect much from a street tire, but again the SPT's that I had previous to these provided grip from the first lap and only stated to fade by the fifth lap.

The only thing I like about them is their rain performance. Very good in this regard, but I would not buy them again just b/c of this.

diabolical1 08-30-2008 02:48 AM

i'm happy with mine so far. however, i rarely drive my car hard so i can't speak on how they perform outside of pedestrian duties. i've been through a lot of rainstorms in the south and i feel confident about their wet performance.
