Yoko AD07s on closeout @ TR
 

Poking around for a set of summer street tires, I found the Yokohama Advan AD07s are deeply discounted at the tire rack. They were replaced in 2009 by the AD08, but should serve nicely as streets and heavy rain autoX tires. The AD07s were the OE tires on the Evo IX.

The 225/45/18s are $99 each.

FWIW, a friend of mine ran these on his Porsche GT3, then ran a set of AD08s last year when he couldn't find any AD07. He preferred the AD07, mainly because they don't seem to drop off at high temperatures (track use), which the AD08s apparently do. He did say the AD08 were better when cold.

I've got a set of these on order now!

^ yeah kind of the same thing with the NT01 and NT05 the NT01s dont drop off at high temps like track use, but the NT05s work better when cold when compared to the NT01's when cold.

^NT05's dont work good when cold either...And compaired to every other 200AA street tire out there, they overheat the least...

Im comparing the NT05 to the NT01.. when both are cold.. the NT05 works better than the NT01.

Is this deal gone already??

some of the sizes are still really expensive, but that link still shows the 225/18s in stock for $99. these were also OE on the Elise, and the OE Lotus sizes are expensive.

*shrug* mine are on their way. $438 shipped. now if only this snow would melt.

Hey, you are right! The deal wasn't there yesterday, but today it is! Weird. It says the tires are 2005 production, five years old is a bit long, what will be the effect of the age?

Almost bit on these, but what I found told me they would only last one season.

Great price, but still cheaper in the long run to go with something a little more durable.

This aren't made to be super durable, they are made for some crazy corner carving. If you just want something to cruise down the highway with, these are almost certainly not the tire for you.

I almost bought these, but then saw 2005 production year. 5 years old, the rubber will be all dried out.

they aren't stored outside in the sun. tires age extremely slowly when they're stored properly. 4-5 years on a car is one thing; 4-5 years in a climate-controlled warehouse is another.

uh, yeah...i figured that was a no-brainer. they're not 350 treadwear commuter tires. :) if you're just driving to work and 7-11, go for something more practical.

these will double as my summer daily drivers and wet-weather autoX tires when there's too much water for Hoosiers. my original choice was either the dunlop star specs or the toyo R1Rs, both of which are close to or more than double the price and won't last any longer.

dmitrik4, thank you for the notification on these tires. Just bought a set two days ago and they'll be here by next week. My stock Dunlops are just now down to the wear bars and I was in the market for a new set of tires. Was looking towards the Michelin PS2s ($216 ea.), but going with the AD07s saves me a pretty penny. Much appreciated!

I ordered a couple sets, you should too. At $99 who cares if it was made 5 years ago. These aren't going to last another 5 years on your car.

Argggggh. On again, off again. I tried to order the 255/40-17s last Sunday, and the website wouldn't let me. Called Monday and the price went up. Now it's back down again but "less than 2" available.

Bummer.

nice find. anybody have any idea how much mileage to expect from these? for what it's worth, i've gotten over 20k miles on my RE050 pole positions, and expect to get another 5 or so. could i get 15-20k out of these tires? or would the suggestion be something like the Dunlop Star Specs?

These will wear much more quickly than your RE050s. Perhaps 10-15k, depending on how you drive.

If you want a good "max" performance summer tire that is relatively cheap, has decent treadwear (rated at 300 but still too new for sure what that means) and has great wet weather handling, look at the Continental ExtremeContact DWs. I've never run these but the people who have tried them like them. I'm down to choosing between the DWs and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics. The Goodyears are on sale and, for now, the same price as the Contis, but the Contis get you a free GPS. Both seem to be great tires that work well in both the dry & the wet, but won't wear as fast as a extreme tire, like the AD07s, etc.

thanks. i decided to pick up a set of these. the price was too absurd. i'm not necessarily looking to replicate the mileage from my pole positions, i just don't want to have to replace these tires after 7k miles. i'm thinking i'm pretty kind on my tires to get at least 25k miles on my pole positions. here's to hoping.
