Will 245/40r18 tires fit on the stock 2005 18" rims?

Anyone know if 245/40r18 tires fit on the stock 2005 18" rims, without any problems?

dannobre 05-27-2011 09:10 AM

Yes

no

No it won't . U r allow to go up 10mm or down 10mm. So 235/40 R18 is the biggest u can go.

WTF are you talking about? You should check out some tire specs my friend. 245 on a 8 inch wheel is more than acceptable.

J8635621 05-27-2011 11:03 AM

I prefer 195/50 on my stock wheels. Even better if the tires are from china.

WRONG!
try again.

shadycrew31 05-27-2011 11:10 AM

I run 205/50/17 on my stock wheels

Explain why ...

ALot of people run 245 on the stock rx8 wheels.

J8635621 05-27-2011 11:12 AM

If you rub crisco on the wheel before they mount tires, you can easily get a 255.

Jedi54 05-27-2011 11:18 AM

j8: I find that KY works great for putting larger then intended things in small areas...

fuztupnz 05-27-2011 11:23 AM

astroglide works as well

J8635621 05-27-2011 11:31 AM

Those might be better, but I use those far more often and thus my supply is limited. Crisco is much cheaper and works nearly as well.

Just to kill two birds with one stone, I have a question. What's the widest tire you can fit on the stock rim?

<ARRXATE> 05-27-2011 12:37 PM

you need a wider rim. [= go staggered. 8.5 or 9 width up front and 10's in the back. [= looks sick, could even add spacers to the rear to give it a mean look.

alnielsen 05-27-2011 12:52 PM

Autocrossers have put 275's on stock 8' wheels, but I wouldn't recommend it for street or track driving. That size tire is too wide for the 8" wheel, but they are limited in what they can do in stock class. I have run 245/40's on the street and track. I didn't see an increase in cornering over the 225/45's on the track. If you check the tire manufacturer specs, you will find that 245's (and sometimes 255's) are acceptable on a 8" rim. It's not optimum, but acceptable.

Staggered is for looks. Not for performance.

Didn't think he said anything about performance or looks. All i said it "looks great"....

J8635621 05-27-2011 01:08 PM

You said he needs it. There is no need to go staggered.

shadycrew31 05-27-2011 01:16 PM

Staggered is personal preference some people who track like it some don't.

The point is this thread is stupid and pointless...

I said performance, not high performance. The discussion is also about using stock wheels.
You post is off topic.

DennisWick 05-30-2011 06:25 AM
