I've seen versions of this on a few RX-8's now in pictures but no one ever says who makes the thing.

Any ideas?

Save your money and remove the OE one, not needed

...pls refer to pages 124-5 of Yamaguchi 's book for the design reasons for including the OE strut bar, but basically, the upper transverse member of the front suspension needed to be of sub-optimal design so the strut bar was incorperated to regain required front-end stiffness.

So :uhh: removing the OE race would simply result in a sub-optimal RX-8 front suspension for your car - at least in the opinion of the original designers - not that there's anything wrong with that - it's your car after all ;)

The company is called Alutec Performance Parts, and yes it is supposed to be a special edition.

That depends on whether we're discussing NVH stiffness, crash impact stiffness, rough road surface stiffness, or torsional chassis stiffness.

Tested it on and off, couldn't perceive or find any difference in feel or performance for autox use.

If it was printed in a book it must be true, but often theory and reality are separated by the magnitude of practicality. I'm sure they optimized the suspension too, but that doesn't stop you or any other racer from installing a set of sub-optimal sub-optimal springs and shocks. ;)

It ultimately depends on what the end goals for achieving optimization are.

Ah Ha! Your answer lies with your sub-optimal choosen use of the car. The RX-8 engineers designed/optimized the car for roads and racetracks, canyons and apexes, high speeds and resulting sustained lateral g's produced... not navigating parking lots and traffic cones :lol2:

In this particular case it's likely only a cosmetic decision, but the engine bay looks much cleaner without it i.e. cosmetic optimization and financial optimization ....
