who here uses Fat Cat Motorsport coilovers?
 

I think this year will finally be the year I get to actually use my tax return. I've seen good and bad reviews for almost every coilovers brand out there. I just want to know if FCMs product is worth the extra money. I'm more than likely getting the complete bolt in package. Is there something just as good? 9k has mentioned Bilstein PSS9 coilovers.

I had them on my Miata, loved them. He'll build you whatever you want, which is worth the extra to me. You talk to him, tell him about any mods you have, what the roads are like where you are, what kind of ride quality you're going for, etc and he'll valve them for what you want to have. I had Tein Flex's before the FCM's and they were incredibly tiresome on a DD, the FCM's made me fall back in love with the car. I gave up a slight bit of turn in (which I probably could have gotten back with a sway bar change, but didn't care enough to) and gained an immense amount of ride compliance. If and when I put a new suspension on this car, it will be FCM.

FCM is another league from off the shelf PSS9's (I still think they are the best bang for the buck on a street car though).

I talked to him for quite a while on the phone. Super nice guy! Definitely knows his stuff. I am really thinking of just spending the extra bit and getting a set from him. With the horror stories I've seen with Stance/Powertrix and the bushing failures, I just want a set I can install and not have to ever worry about.

It really depends on intended use. Stance/Powertrix are not even in the same hemisphere, they were just built to fit the cars they go on, that is it.

The Bilsteins are over $1000 cheaper. I can buy a lot of shit with that money saved. I'm not a professional racer...at best I'm a spirited driver like most of us 8 owners. I'm not looking to slam my car, just get the stance right. I don't want a harsh ride because northern Indiana roads are not that great. I just want lowered comfortable performance if that makes any sense.

He did also suggest upgrading to a Whiteline front sway bar only...probably to make up for the softer spring rate

Yeah, he seems to like to go a little softer on the springs and damping and use a beefier sway to give back some turn in. It works very well on a street car. All I'll say is, I've been in some *miserable* driving modified cars on mid range suspensions. Koni/H&R combos, Tein, god knows what blingy anodized Chinese pieces of shit, they'll all make you exhausted after a full day of driving. I call them "chatty", they don't spare you the details of the low-amplitude, low-frequency movements in the suspension that you don't really even realize are there until they're all relayed to your ass. I'm sure the OTS Bilsteins are fine enough, but the FCM's are borderline magic when it comes to the ride/handling compromise. I'm sad to see he doesn't offer the non-adjustable ones like he did when I got them for my Miata, those were about $500 cheaper and I never once wished I was fiddling with the shock damping, but it was just right out of the box. I can think of much worse ways to spend a grand on your car if you really want to enjoy driving it rather than just looking at it.

I am on PSS9s and track my car about 10 times per year. The rest of my 8 driving is on weekends in nice weather and the occasional trip to work and back. If I had it to do over again, I would go with FCM.

If I ever get my MSM up and running, it will eventually get a set of FCMs, as I won't be looking elsewhere.

Thanks for the two cents fellas! I will more than likely have my car sitting on FCM coilovers this spring. Now if I can only scavenge up another $1800 for BHRs long tube header, I will be set for life!
