wheelhop
im not really sure what this is but im guessing from its name that when you drive you spin out and your car back tires hop a bit? if not then what is that called and sway bars can get rid of the correct?

Sway bars at rear will definetely help wheel hop, and lowered suspension .

swaybars help for sure.. i was under the impression that the LSD is suppose to eliminate as much ho as possible .. smoother power to the wheels..
but im sure for a fact that the best way to eliminate weel hop is by getting a lower tie bar. or lower strut bar or somethin... its available for the SVT focus .. i use to own and alot of peeps said that it significantly reduced wheel hop.. |
Uh,
all of the things you guys are mentioning will make wheel hop WORSE because they're going to STIFFEN the rear, meaning its less soft, less absorption, more hopping! A more aggressive LSD will damn near kill you on launches, trust me. All the stuff you've suggested is great for handling, but remember, you want stiffness for handling - you want softness for launching. You want HUGE honkin rear tires, preferably thicker than stock diameter. |
I have the MS suspension. (shocks,springs,sway bars)
Wheel hop pulling second is much worse now.. so I pull a more sedate second shift. -B |

It is your tires that are the main problem in this situation. Well its not really a problem. To fix this go with a diffrent style tire other than RE040 potenza, Tread pattern and wear make a big difference. I use Federal SS-595 super steel 245-40-ZR18 all the way around.

Get some Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s or Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s in 245/45/18 for the rear only.

Or, you could just keep doing it till your stock Protenzas are bald in the rear and then you would be on the "racing slicks" used by many honda civic's. ;)

I believe Charles Hill found a new thicker rear sway bar helped eliminate the rear wheel hop at the strip. You could PM him for more details.

I spoke to 3 Mazda specialists. They all thought I was barking up the wrong tree to think that thicker sways would eliminate wheel hop. They all agreed it would improve handling though. They also all agreed that you have to get stiffer shocks so theat the tired would not go up and down.
However, Charles Hill knows what he's talking about and it seemed to work perfectly for him. I'm going with the RB sway bars in any event come the spring for improved cornering but I will not expect it eliminate the wheel hop. That way if it does, bonus! This is a mystery indeed. |
Disable the DSC/TCS and you will see a huge improvement. I get a little spin on my launches but no violent "wheel hopping"
